  1. I live in a small town in Southern IL and I'm actually going in this week to fill out paperwork to try to get into a CNA class in my county. The secretary told me that as long as I make a certain amount of money or less I can get into the program for free, I'm assuming financial aid or the state will pay. It's a 12 week program (6 weeks class, 6 weeks clinical) and it's Mon-Fri 8:30am - 3:30pm. It's going to be pretty intense, but worth it! I was taking a CNA class at my local community college earlier this year, but I was having to pay out of pocket and I couldn't afford it so I had to drop out . Anyway I found it by doing a google search for nurse aid classes + my zip code. It doesn't hurt to try and you never know what you may find.
  2. Thanks for all the advice, I really appreciate it! I've been in contact with a CNA training program that I'm trying to get into. That way I only have to work at the restaurant for a little bit. I'm crossing my fingers I get in!
  3. I just recently got married and I'm starting a full-time job at Olive Garden. I'll be making about $9 an hour + occasional tips. My husband works at a tire and lube place making about the same as me. We don't have that many expenses, just rent and insurance and my car payment. I've always wanted to go to school and I know I don't want to work at OG forever. I'm just not sure how I'm going to afford going to school (both financially and mentally). Anyway I'm basically wondering how those of you with jobs and families balanced everything to get the career you wanted. Thanks! Jessyka
  4. I'm taking Psych 150, Math 093 , Lit 113, and Eng 101 Apparently this nursing school only requires General Psych, Eng 101, and Sociology as pre-req's. Everything else you take there. And they accept students twice a year, fall and spring. I'm really thinking about going there.
  5. Hey I'm going to SWIC right now! I'm only taking my pre-req's, but chances are we've walked right past each other several times. You should pm me if you want to talk! Someone in my Literature class actually told me about the Lutheran School. I was planning on going to SWIC NE program, but for me this one seems faster. Go Cards!!
  6. I was just wondering if anyone on here has or is attending the Lutheran School of Nursing in St. Louis, MO? Or has anyone looked into it? I'm considering applying there and I thought I'd see if anyone had any first hand knowledge. Thanks!
  7. I'm attending a local two year nursing program. It's going to take me three years though because of pre-req's.
  8. I'm going to SWIC!! I'm only taking my pre-req's right now though.
  9. CLEP stands for College Level Examination Program. Basically what you would do is contact the college and tell them you would like to take a Sociology CLEP Test. If you pass you get the college credit. The following link will take you to the college board page that discusses the clep test in detail. http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/about.html My friend who is a history buff took 2 History CLEP's even though she never took a college history class and earned 6 college credits it 4 hours.
  10. L&D and ER are my current favorites. I've watched my mom give birth to three of my siblings and it fascinates me. Of course I'm only going into college this year (and that's just my pre-req) so my mind could easily have changed my the time I start clinicals.
