  1. Hi All, I'm leaning toward the 3 semester plan since it will only be 3 extra months with the Summer semester. What makes the 2 semester plan cheaper? Is it fees because the tuition would be the same. Just curious. Also, the background check said it would be $43.50 but ended up costing $51. Was that the same for you all too?
  2. Overstock.com has some good prices on the Calpak brand of wheeled backpacks. They have a few models that look more like regular backpacks without the large feet. Ebags.com also has the Jansport Driver 8 which got good reviews on allnurses. I like how ebags.com has videos to show some of their backpacks. I would wait for another sale before buying a backpack on ebags because they were just doing a 20% off sale. Purkinje - Were there a lot of people at open lab when you went last week?
  3. I went to pick out my uniforms today. It was a difficult choice since there were multiple styles of pants and tops to choose from. I hope I like what I picked out once I get to bring them home to try on. Does anyone know when we will have to wear our lab coat? Is it worn during clinicals? If so, is it optional? I thought I remember someone saying we only had to wear it when we go to the hospital to pick up our patient information the night before clinical. I'm just curious because it seems like it might be uncomfortable.
  4. jdhaynes, Great news! I'm glad you are taking the same CPR class. Purkinje, Thanks for the info about the uniforms. It's good to know that we get to actually pick the style of scrubs that fit us best. How is the Gray's Anatomy lab coat different from the regular lab coat?
  5. jdhaynes, I just signed up with a provider who does the regular class at Central Texas EMS in Georgetown. I picked this one because it is held on Saturdays (I'm attending the 7/10 class) and its close to Round Rock. You can sign up online for this class if you go to the American Heart Association website and search for the BLS for Healthcare Providers. I was very surprised when I got the confirmation email because this class is also less expensive then some of the others I was quoted. This class is 2 hours longer then some of them but I figure I would make some of that up in driving time. She also sent a link to the study guide so I can review ahead of time. I'm sorry that I don't know any information about the renewal options. I also looked at the online part 1 option but when I searched for the skills test providers there were not many to choose from. Plus, I figure it would be good to have more hands on time for this.
  6. Yep, I just registered for the Jump Start session.
  7. I looked back at my email and they said they would send more info after 6/4. I was hoping we would get something on 6/4 but it doesn't look like it. Hopefully something will come early next week.
  8. Count me in for a get-to-know you thing...Good idea Purkinje. It will be nice to meet everyone before school starts. I took nursing skills last year so all my nursing skills classmates that I kept in touch with have already started the program. I wonder if Friday is a good day to go to open lab. Does anyone know if it gets real busy? I wish they were open later in the day or on weekends.
  9. Thanks for setting this up. Now I just need to post 5 more times (I think) to get my PM working.
  10. An email list sounds good to me too. I'm not sure how we would exchange our email addresses on the allnurses board unless it was through private messages. We could start something like google groups but we would all have to have a google account to use it. Any other ideas? We should also get together this summer and go to open lab.
  11. I got in too and asked for Hybrid. I didn't know letters were going out today but I had my email open all day in hopes they would. I think I replied within minutes of getting the letter so I cross my fingers that I get Hybrid! Congrats to all who made it! If you didn't make it in this semester I promise that time will FLY until next semester. I remember having to defer last semester and I thought today would never come. It will be here before you know it!
  12. When they send out the first acceptance letter they will ask you to reply by a certain date with the option that you want (onsite, CEC, or hybrid). I'm not sure if they fill the spots by how fast you reply with your choice or if they do it by some other method such as filling the spots by rank order after they get everyone's choices.
  13. If you go to the ACC nursing website you can get a general idea of the schedule. Click on course bulletin board and then click on the option and level you are curious about.
  14. When I was in Nursing Skills I took my own Stethoscope but ended up using the schools most of the time. The ones you have to check off with are those teaching Stethoscopes with the two headsets. During our practice time I would share the teaching Stethoscope with another student and then we were able to compare our readings. I purchased a Littmann Classic II S.E. scope and really like it.
  15. Hi All...I'm a 2010 Fall Hopeful too. Just wanted to say Hi. I applied the first time for the Spring 2010 entrance and got accepted but ended up deferring my application. It kills me to have to wait another semester but I know time will fly. They will calculate the Nursing Skills class as the 11th class for those who had it completed the semester before they applied. You will all enjoy the nursing skills class. It was lots of fun.
  16. Here is the link to our microbiology lab page. I am not taking Micro till next semester so I cant say if this is what you are looking for. Dig around on the lab exercises and handout tabs. There is a lot of stuff in there. http://www.austincc.edu/microbugz/index.html Also, here are some links that I bookmarked a long time ago. I was hoping they might help me one day when I take Micro.
