Interviews for Michigan CRNA programs....
I'm sorry- I wasn't very clear. My friend that called weeks ago didn't even get an interview at oakland. Luluwags- Congrats on the UM-Flint acceptance! How was the interview? scary as they say? Did they tell you how many people they were accepting this year?

Interviews for Michigan CRNA programs....
My friend got turned down from Oakland, when she called a few weeks ago, they told her if she hadn't heard from them, then she wasn't in. I heard from U of M-Flint a week or so ago. They deferred my application to the final deadline feb 1st. Which means I'm not good enough that they want me right now, but maybe if nobody better comes along..... Thats about all I know.

Interviews for Michigan CRNA programs....
Oh- forgot to add. I've also heard that U of M-flint's interview is super challenging. But I've been told by graduates from there that it's supposed to 'break you, not make you'. They do send you to the OR with a CRNA I think before your interview that asks you questions, and give you a test. Although don't expect to do well on the test. Most people get 5/10 right- the best 7/10. So just go and don't be defensive. Just what I've heard. As I've not interviewed, I'm just waiting..... :)

Interviews for Michigan CRNA programs....
I'm waiting to hear from U of M- Flint. From what the admissions lady told me, they don't really review the apps till the end of Oct, and then interviews in nov/dec. Even though it's been a week since the deadline, I feel like it's been a month...... Let me know if you hear anything from them.

I'm applying to OHSU(Portland OR), Samuel Merritt in San Fran, and Westminster (Salt Lake City). Deadlines arn't till the end of the year so havn't sent my stuff in yet. I'm a bit nervous as my GPA wasn't the highest (weirdly enough it dropped after I turned 21....) From your experience, what do you think of my resume/stats?? Cum GPA of 3.18. Science GPA of 3.5 includes 3 semesters of Chem (inorganic, organic, biochem)B,A-,B+ Havn't taken GRE yet- (in about 3 weeks)- should be able to get b/w an 1100-1200. 5 years ICU experience (by Fall 2009). 2 years MICU- large well known University teaching hospital 2.5 Years Float pool RN. NSICU, TSICU, CICU, MICU- in a level one trauma hospital. (agency Rn also in all ICU's including inner city chicago SICU's) 5 months volunteering in small Ecuadorian hospital (not ICU- all areas) Surgical trips to Haiti Certs CCRN (have to take it still) TNCC ACLS PALS Is my GPA going to screw me? Does anyone have any thoughts or advice? I'm not sure if I'm more nervous than I should be. Does it look bad if I've moved around abit and worked in quite a few hospitals? (not b/c I was fired- but just b/c I like adventure and new places) Thanks! I know I added a bit more than was asked for in the original post... sorry!

CRNAs and Medical Service Missions
It depends on which country that you would like to work in as a CRNA. I've volunteered as an RN in Ecuador for 5months and have been to Haiti also. For example, Ecuador does not allow CRNA's to practice there (mainly because I think it takes away business from Ecuadorian anesthesiologists). A Haitian would let anyone do anesthesia on them. Cure International usually has openings for CRNA's. They have hospitals throughout Africa, Latin America, and Afghanistan. A general rule would be- the richer the country will have more regulations regarding how and if a CRNA can practice.

army nurse training
Reading all this stuff, has brought up more questions than I had when I started..... I've got 3+ years of critical care experience at large high acuity hospitals, I had been planning on starting to work in the ER this summer and start school for my masters to be an Emergency Nurse Practitioner this fall. I'm very interested in joining the army, and had been thinking about taking out loans and joining afterwards and getting the loan repayment for my grad school and paying back however many years of service for the 2+ years of school. If I joined the army now as a Critical Care RN/ER, would I still be able to go back to school for Emergency Nurse Practitioner and get it paid for? I wouldn't be joining just to get grad school payed for, but if I want to be in the Army and I want to go to school-- why not hit two birds with one stone? I'm aware that if I joined now, I'd most likely be deployed before I was eligible to go back to school, and that's fine with me. I think this post may be confusing but it's 5am and I'm at work, so please forgive me if I'm not making sense (my patients are very stable....) :)

Do nurses need to know Arabic?
They do speak Farsi in Iran, but in Afghanistan the official language is Dari. They are both of the Persian languages, and very similar, but someone from Afghanistan would beg to differ that they speak Persian. They also speak Pashto in Afhg. but that is mainly in the southern regions, more where the Taliban is concentrated. Also, hint of advice, if you're planning on learning Arabic, try to get someone from Iraq to tutor you. The dialects from other Arabic speaking countries can be different and difficult for a foreigner(such as myself) to overcome.
