  1. Hang in there.... I started on a cardiac stepdown floor fresh out of nursing school. Although the pt ratio was 1:6 days but we had computer charting.. It is very overwhelming at first. The one thing I must say that really helped me and I do it to this day is prioritizing!!!!!! Don't be afraid to ask for help and ask questions. I have been nursing for 5 years now and I love it. I am now in the cath holding area. It takes a good year to feel confident and comfortable trust me. So take your time and hang in there...
  2. Things I always do. Make sure pt has voided, tell them not to tighten their stomach ( that will make it harder for you ) Make sure they are lying flat. Good bed height for you and if you can't feel the pulse before you pull the sheath then you need to apply pressure where you feel the sheath under the skin ( just wiggle the sheath and you can feel it under the skin) these things make it easier at least for me I have been doing it a year and no problems.. Also use the clamp if you have a really deep person. And I found out some thin people are hard to hold the artery rolls around you really have to bear down on that sucker....
  3. I am a first time travler looking for a company. This website is awsome. I am trying to figure out what a good hourly rate is for WA state. I am a cardiac nurse working in the cath pre and post area in Virginia and have no idea about what would be a good or great pay for a travler there. I don't want to get underpayed. Thanks
  4. I have never done travel nursing before and I am overwelmed with picking a travel company to get me and my family to WA state Seattle/Tacoma area. I do not want to pick the wrong company and I have been asking around the hospital I work at and I have gotton mixed reviews on companies. Would love to hear from nurses that have had good experiences with companies .
