fundraising ideas
Thanks for all of your previous posts on motivational ideas. We have decided that in order to get people more motivated to participate in education for the ED staff, we will create a lottery. For every person who creates a poster presentation or case study for staff meetings or completes another project to educate fellow staff members, their name will be enered in the lottery. At the end of the year, one RN will be selected to recieve an all expense paid trip to the National ENA conference. Now we need to raise money for the trip. ANyone have any fundraising ideas? Thanks

do you team nurse?
I work in a busy ED with a high acuity and we use team nursing. When staffing is good there is 1 tech for 12 patients and 2 nurses for every 6 patients. Each nurse is primary for 3 patients but helps out with the other three. It works really nicely most of the time.

DNR order
I really like the purple DNR band idea. I work in the ED and not on the floor but occasionally we have to respond to codes in other areas of the hospital...cath lab, rehab, cafeteria, outside grounds, radiology, etc. If pt from the floor had a wrist band this would be very helpful.

DNR order
I work in the ED and we sometimes have to take telephone admission orders. The hospital protocol states you can take a verbal/teltphone DNR/DNI if it is readback, verified, and signed by two RN's. The MD must then come in and sign the order with in 24 hrs. Supporting the patient/family's wishes is very important. Check into your hospital's protocol and support what it says

"A good first impression???"
A near by hospital recently switched to all white uniforms trying to boost patient satisfaction scores, after 6 mo the scores did not rise significantly and the nurses were complaining so much about the stains on thier scrubs that the hospital has already nixed the rule

motivation ideas
I am part of the education commitee for our ED and we are looking into ways to motivate staff to keep up with new information. Bombarding staff with articles in the past has never worked and recent poster board case studies have also failed. Does anyone have any creative ideas? What has worked for you? Please Help.
