  1. I feel ya! I put myself in so much financial debt it's not even funny.
  2. Hello, I would really appreciate if some of you nurses/students could provide me with some scenerios and how you chart it. For example, a patient came in with burns and had surgery etc. How do you chart the IV site, like the whole head to toe thing. I really need help with documentation...I'm really considering a class designed specifically for charting. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  3. I would say B, to esablish a trusting relationship FIRST and THEN D. *shrugs
  4. Thank you pagandeva, I'm currently lookinf for employment as a CNA, I think it will be somewhat helpful. See you around!
  5. Yes, I can return in the fall to complete 205 which is only 5 weeks. I have a thread started (if you look in my profile) of the story...the title is "I made it to the last minute then"..... For some reason, when I get to this point I get so nervous and I freeze. I'm going to the doc to address this anxiety issue, hopefully with just cognitive therapy and no meds...like coping mechanisms etc. So yeah, I have to wait till November, I was supposed to graduate Dec of 06.
  6. My instructor even was worried about me not being ready, so I withdrew.
  7. Hello, I decided to withdrawal from my last part of my last semester due to feeling like I need more improvement with patient care before graduating. I tried to get into a summer internship but they are all filled in my area so I'm going to apply for a job as a nurse's aid. My question is, to those of you in nursing school, how much has working as a CNA helped you in your clinicals? And why? Do they allow you to observe, perhaps participate? Do you learn from observing, hearing? Thank you.
  8. Yes it did, thank you SO much. There are so many lines and tubing in the room I'm so confused, is there any websites where I can visualize this? I hope i'm not being too pesky? Anyone?
  9. Well, I have to perform in front of her on Saturday...I'm about to graduate so...she wants me to do what I can, I already asked her this. She wants me to give report, pass meds, suction...I do'nt have to take FULL care of the patient. Any tips or hints are really appreciated!
  10. Like chest tubes, ventilators, trach care, etc? Thank you:)
  11. Hi, I'm doing an externship and for a few days, I'll be on the ICU. I wil be there for 2 days and my instructor is expecting me to be proficient in taking and giving report, and knowing the basics of ICU care. My question is, could you give me an idea of what your day is like? I know you have a diverse set of patients and your daily routine isn't always consistent, but just in general? You suction, take blood from AV lines..etc Could anyone help me, I'm really nervious.
  12. Thank you very much, you helped me out alot!:)
  13. Thank you Daytonite!:) Do you have any links that could direct me to evaluate the pros and cons of switching from fixed shifts to rotating shifts? And some good sites for solutions to this problem? I'm having a tough time finding good sites...not much of a computer person:idea: , thanks!:)
  14. I have found this site and I am in such AWE that it exists!:) I'm currently doing the externship and part of the objectives for this course is to do a presentation on the subject related to staff nurses working at a hospital that has fixed shifts. I am to examine the pros and cons of changing to rotating shifts and make a recommendation to the administration on my findings. So we have to problem solve this issue(much like the nursing process). For example... *We have to define the problem-probably the most vital step. -Think about all the people that are implicated, are there any materials impacting any equipment/machinery involved, and finally what method or process involved. *Gather information -Information should be valid, accurate, timely, and relevant to the issue -Access standards of care, policies, procedures from the unit computer system. -Survey nursing research on your topic(consider data only if it has been published within the last 3 years). -Analyze data -Develop solutions and options(THIS IS MY PART) -Select solutions(THIS IS MY PART) -Determine how you will implement -Determine how you will eveluate My part is to devise a plan to make everyone happy on the findings...we are doing this as a group(of three) their findings were something to the effect that... Rotation shifts were best during orientations of staff. After orientation of staff, fixed shifts were better, less wear and tear on body etc. My question to you is, could you give me your advice about the problem, especially if you've experienced something similar to this issue. And in your words, what ARE fixed shifts, and what solution would YOU come up with. In the meantime, I will be researching this topic on the net. Thank you SO much!:) Oh FAQ's 1. Select a facilitator 2. Identify and define the situation or problem. 3. Analyze the problem. Ask "what do we need to know." 4. Gather data. Determine the tasks of each group member. 5. Analyze key alternatives and solutions. 6. Recommend a specific action. 7. Determind how your solution or action will be implemented and evaluated.(MY PART:))
