Well, I got in to pn school. Monday, we just did our background checks. I was told if any arrests show up, I cannot attend school. I am now 39 years old and in 1991, I was arrested for a FTA. I never knew I was supposed to show in court because my ex-roomate at the time never gave me the letter. I bounced checks and I did go to court for it, but I did the diversion program so it wasn't supposed to go on my record. All this was 16 years ago, will this affect my chances now? My life is very different and I REALLY want to attend school. I am so nervous that after being one of 35 accepted out of more than 400, I may not get to go after all. I graduated from MA school 10 years ago and there was never any problem. Why now? I don't know whether I should buy books, apply for loans, buy scrubs, etc. Has anybody had a similar experience? We are supposed to know the results in 10 days, but I don't know if my stomach will last that long. When I applied to school, I was under the impression that because my offenses were minor and so long ago, they wouldn't be a problem, but when I spoke with the instructor the other day, she said they might be. I am praying almost every moment of the days that everything will be ok.

I'm 39, and for the last 2 1/2 years, a stay at home mom. 10 years ago I graduated from a Medical Assisting program in CA and worked in a large clinic for 5 years. I loved it and always wanted to be a nurse. 5 years ago, we moved to MS and nobody here would accept my education because the school in CA, although credentialed in CA and a few other states, was not credentialed here. So, I've just been accepted to a PN program at a local community college and have to take everything again. In CA, I am certified for venipuncture, injection, etc., but not here. I guess it will make school a bit easier. Most of the students are very young, but I have life and work experience over them. After the PN program, I intend to do the next year for PN to Associates Degree RN. Then, online for BSN, then Nurse-Midwife. I guess I should take one at a time? 3 years ago I started at another CC with the prereqs and found out I was pregnant and had to drop out because we needed the $$ and insurance from my job. If I can do it now, anybody can! Good luck everybody and hang in there.

I went back to school 10 years ago for a Medical Assisting program after being out of school for 11 years. I worked in the field for 6 years and loved it. I've always wanted to further my education to a nurse. My stepmother is a nurse and loves it. I've applied to start a LPN couse this fall and I am waiting to see if I am accepted. When I was an MA, I worked with the best MD in a clinic setting. I loved my job. I am so excited to finally (hopefully) start the next step of my career.
