hello again, thanks Tweety for your post and it's support of me. Tazzi, where in California are you? I am a behavioral RN with 12 yrs. of detox/psych. on top of 20 yrs. med/surg. Never had time to get a degree but have seen it all and then some. I have also saved alot of lives the old fashioned way, with CPR and noticing someone was in deep sh-- before they crashed; sent a gal once who presented for detox who looked really toxic and addicts surely can look bad, anyway she had this petichiae(?sp) and so I insisted she get med. clearance at the local ED and she had leukemia! The point is I know what I am doing and would like to do it! I have been suspecting a bit of age discrimination since the folks I interview with are often younger, but the other piece is equally annoying and that is the lack of professioanlism and lack of garden variety manners in this process. Oh well, I thank God I have saved to get me thru. It is getting difficult to put on a happy face for interviews though. I have often thought nurses have to give Academy Award performances frequently and I will have to also, if/when that next interview comes along. It is helpful to have this forum and fine folks reaching out to say thinking of you. Take good care, elbo

Thanks Don for the reply. I will try to believe that you are correct. I was hoping not to have to resort to moving (again) to work in my profession. I realize that some of my "lacks" ie. not a nurse practitioner may be holding me back but at my age it does not seem feasible to pursue that nor can I afford it at this time. Plus, it has been my experience that the average nursing job does not require all the education in the world, and yet the want ads are very exacting and exclusively written. Meanwhile, I watch the positions continue to be posted and unfilled... Thanks again for not only reading my rant but reaching out to a fellow nurse. It is appreciated. elbo

I am new to all nurses. I am looking for support. For the first time in my career I am having difficulty securing a postion (that I want). The process has been frustrating. I have often received no aknowledgment, or promises to call that are not kept,an orientation that never ended, an orientation that ended early,I could go on and on. If I was not running out of $ it would be funny. I have 30 plus years of experience and am a competent, caring professional. I apply for advertised positions immediately and they are invariably" filled by internal applicants". I bumped into another "Nurse of a certain age" and she has been experiencing the same runaround. Surely part of the shortage is due to this kind of situation. Please be aware that there are fine nurses ready, able and willing to work and we are waiting for HR depts. to get moving and ? maybe stop overlooking older nurses. I used to joke when I was working that I had forgotten more than some younger nurses knew yet...well now I would just liike to get to work alongside you and show you what I know and learn from you also... that is all for now,``````````````````````````````````````````````` elbo
