  1. I'm considering a move from California to Scottsdale/Phoenix. What's the outlook for a new CNA and Phlebotomist in the area? Decent pay and opportunities? The goal would be to get work with either or both of those certs while working toward RN. Any advice on good nursing programs in the area would also be appreciated. Thx, Mike
  2. I've seen posts by folks from other states mentioning hospitals that train CNA's, or getting a CNA plus some extra acute care training. Just not sure what the common practice is in this area. Seems like it varies by region.
  3. What kind of training/qualifications do I need to get a CNA hospital job in the SF bay area? Or any other entry level position that might come to mind for that matter? I'm a 32 yo male with a BA in liberal arts and went through 2/3 of chiropractic school. Looking to get a foot in the door and gain some experience while redoing some old prereqs for RN programs.
  4. Keep seeing this come up in SF bay area jobs posts. Anyone know what the job entails, what it pays, and if any training is needed to get hired? Is this a good position to get some experience and a foot in the door? Thx
  5. Seems like private schools might be more leinient on prereq age and test-out policies. I will probably will be leaving California soon. Maybe for NY or FL. One of my thoughts was to get an LPN and then be able to move wherever I had to for school.
  6. Thanks for all the replies. I kinda figured those survey stats weren't telling the whole story. My goal is to be an RN, but I'm keeping my options open considering the competition for spots, wait-lists, and high tuition. My prereqs. are ~10 years old, too. With the emerging online options, including options to test out of prereqs, I might be able to reach my goal of RN just as fast, and for around the same cost, with the LPN-RN route.
  7. I thought this was interesting. Anyone notice this in practice? I wonder if having a bachelor's in an unrelated field for a new LPN/LVN would lead to better pay, or if these folks had some other health-care related degree. I'm asking as someone with a BA in liberal arts, looking to get into nursing. http://lpn.advanceweb.com/common/Editorial/PrintFriendly.aspx?CC=83114
  8. I like the sound of "negotiable" and "test out." :) I have a boat load of science classes in my past. I did two years of Chiropractic School after my BA, which was already just a course or two short of a biology degree. GPA was ~3.6. I'm guessing it would come easier the second time around, but sure would be nice to brush-up instead of redo. I'm in the odd situation of completely starting life over. So, where to live, work, what career and schools to consider are all wide open.
  9. Anyone know, in general, if there's a cut-off for age of prereq classes? I'm considering a 2nd degree BSN program. My BA was completed in '99. Some of my science classes were taken as far back as '94.
