Am I getting jipped???
Thanks guys so much for your advice:) No its not a CCRN certification, i know that for sure. Its just a "certification" for the hospital. I understand they dont want people taking off after putting me through a class, but to put me in this position just steams me bad. Letting me know about this 2 weeks into the class is unacceptable..what if i was planning on moving in 12 months and then i had to go sign this ya know? Ive talked to other graduate nurses at other hospitals within the same health system and they said they did not have to sign any such paper. One even told me that her hospital used to have it (the hospital is in my health system) and that they stopped making people sign it because it was illegal. She said its illegal because its a required course to work on that floor. I dunno..like i said, im a new nurse, in new to this, thats why i really needed advice before i went forth and said something. Thanks guys

Am I getting jipped???
Hi everyone:D I need some help or some opinions please. I just graduated and passed my boards on the 18th. I started working on a tele floor on August 4th. My nurse educator for my floor informed me that I am required to take a dysthythmia course and a critical care course. I very willingly am going to these classes and im really excited Im getting such a good head start after just graduating. Anyway, I started the critical care course two weeks ago. Yesterday, my nurse educator walks up to me and says "Nicole i need you to sign this paper for me and just put it in my mailbox when you do." After she walked away, I look at the paper. It says that my hospital is paying $1200 to send me to this course and that I have to promise them 15 months of service. If I do not stay at the hospital for a full 15 months, no matter if Im fired, laid off, or quit, that I have to pay them back the $1200. Im a little pissed...number one, this is a required course to work on the floor. Number two, noone ever everrr mentioned to me anything about this before the class began and I think its totally unfair that they want me to sign some contract to pay them $1200 and hand it to me two weeks INTO the class!!!!! Is this legal? And how do I handle this? Im a new nurse and I dont want to start off on the wrong foot at my job and say the wrong things but I think this is totally unfair. Im single, no kids, and wasnt looking on staying there for 15 months and now Im stuck! Any advice guys? Thanks so much Nicole

Has anyone ans. 265 ?'s for NCLEX and passed
I just took it Thursday. I had 215 questions with six minutes left when I was finished and I passed. I have friends in my class that had 265 and passed. I also have friends that had 75 and failed..or 75 and passed. DO NOT go by how many questions you are given or how long you take, it is not based on that. Here is ..word by word..a comment from the State Board of Nursing on testing. They gave us this to bring home with us after we were finished our test to read. "It is important to understand that the length of your nclex examination or the number of questions answered is not an indication of a specific pass or fail result. A candidate with a relatively short examination may pass or fail just as a candidate with a long examination may pass or fail. Each candidate, no matter what the length of the examination, has ample opportunity to demonstrate the competence and is given an examination that conforms to the nclex-rn or nclex-pn test plan. Many candidates' examinations will end before the maximum number of questions has been administered. Please do not be concerned if your examination finishes earlier or lasts longer than other candidates. The length of your examination is determined soley by your performance on the examination. The differering lengths of each candidates examination is an illustration of the computerized adaptive testing (CAT) at work:" Thats straight outta the horses mouth..or ummm.brochure..hahaha! Hope that helped ya! O, and one more thing, I didnt know this and i rushed at the end of the test because I was nervous I was running out of time. "When a candidate runs out of time before completing the maximum number of questions, the following will be applied: the candiddate will pass if the competence estimate has remained above the passing standard for the last 60 items. The candidate will fail if the competence estimate was below the passing standard for any of the last 60 items." grrrrrrrr..i wish someone would of told me that beforeeee I took the test! I was rushing like a maniac shaking sooooo bad cause I was scared I was gonna run outta time. Looks like I work well under anxiety though:chuckle Best of luck to you:kiss

Any tips on reading EKG's?
First, I would like to say God bless you all. I am in my last semester of nursing school and we are learning how to read EKG's...I just learned it any my head is spinning!:roll Any way, I know once I start memorizing some stuff it'll make more sense but I was wondering if you guys had any memorization tips you learned along the way to recognize a certain arrythmia or ANYTHING that has to do with EKG's. This repolarization and depolarization has me a little confused...does repol mean the heart isn ot contracting at the time and depol means it is contracting? Please help me if you can! Thank you so much guys! Nicole

Waiting list for school, wait time?
I've never heard of it. My school has a two year waiting period no matter how good your grades are. Its kind of .....first come, first serve. Good luck to you.

Eat, sleep, breathe nursing program???
Yup, thats what everyone told me too. My first semester I was so nervous all I did was eat, sleep, and breathe nursing (hmmmm....wonder why?) Then I had a panic attack in the middle of class and my wonderful teacher sat me down and spoke a few smart words to me. #1: It does not say "C" student on your nursing pin, if you get a C, noone knows it but you. #2: Make time for yourself, I quit working out which is something I love to do and she said it was the worst mistake I could make. Keep doing what you love. SO I did what she said, I still tried my hardest and made more time for "me". And guess what? My grades got BETTER! DOn't stress yourself out and dont listen to other people. You're going to hear so many things that will scare the hell out of you and then you come to find that its not that way. Ive changed my study habits this way: I take notes in class, rewrite them when I get home, and read a up a bit on what we learned. If you look up diseases your studying on the internet its much more understandable because they are geared for the patients to understand. Best of luck.....youll be wonderful!:roll
