  1. I just can't imagine not having a tube system. I am just curious, Deespoohbear, how many beds in your hospital?
  2. Tinkertots replied to lpnga's topic in General Nursing
I live in Florida. We have Pcts. They do vitals, assist with adls, some run 12 lead ekgs, all do blood sugars, all do lab draws, some even do foleys. But, Never meds. I have heard of some Pcts that take special medication classes. These I think work in facilities that dont normally staff alot of nurses... like ECFs or ALFs.
  3. I just remember there are a few reasons why they might be ugly to you 1. Then are out of their minds(drugs or ETOH). 2. They are really scared. 3. They are very ill. 4. They are just mean all the time!! Regardless, I try to put myself in their shoes. I know how scared I am when my dad goes into the hospital for his cardiac problems. I know when I am scared I can get demanding. I have the "My dad is sick and I want him to have the best care" mentality. My resposnse is to say, "You seem very upset, what is upsetting you?" Once they get it off their chest, regardless of the reason, they are nicer. AND more often than not they apologize for their actions. Most see that you cared enough to recognize the problem and will seek you out in the future to help them. Just remember...There are natrually angry/mean people out there too. Just be the bigger person and not stoop to their level. Don't be afraid to demand respect from these people.
  4. Hi Everyone! Thanks for all the wonderful posts! So many ideas... I have so much to think about now! Just got back from Dallas...a family thing...Sorry it took so long to reply! Yes, Night, I have searched the available names. Nursing Solutions was taken for the corporation, but I can name my "doing business as" pretty much anything. There are few small agencies in my area...Anyway! Thanks again
  5. Anyone have a thought on Nursing Solutions?
  6. Thanks for all of the ideas/thoughts. Wow Hoolahan, maybe you should consider the consulting business... See I knew you guys were creative... Keeeeeepemcomin!
  7. I am starting a new business as an independent contract nurse that I hope to eventually turn into an agency. I also hope to do some writing ( nurse/cna educational materials). Does any one have any ideas for my business name? I live in Sunny Florida and would like to appear grounded, established. For example... "Preferred"... or "First Choice". You guys are a creative bunch... I know, I have read the threads! Would appreciate any suggestions! I will let you know what I eventually pick.
  8. There is a great chance that you would not even consider going to the funeral if you had not already developed a relationship with the patient and/or family. It is important EVEN for nurses to have closure after death. Remember we are human too My mother died 12 years ago of several different types of cancer. We were in and out of the hospital often. After my mother's death, I felt a huge need to thank my mothers caretakers. I wanted to give back to them all they had given me and my family. So guess how I repaid them???? I BECAME A NURSE FOLLOW WHAT IS IN YOUR HEART!
