Thanks very much for repying. I don't live in the states so I'm still learning about the route into nursing!! I'm visiting Orlando at the end of April to tour around a few colleges and see what the situation is. The only ones I've found that do ADN's which foreign students can enroll on are SCC and HerzingCC (Central florida hospital college seemed quite difficult to get into and Valencia was open to USA citizens and permanent residents only). Those are the two that I'm going to see however if the wait list is 2009 at the moment even with pre-req's done then I'm in trouble!!! You mentioned something about private colleges? Are there any in Orlando or Miami that I may be able to research. I'm more concerned about getting on a course quickly as opposed to the cost - although don't get me wrong I'm not wanting to throw money away on this!!! I'm 36 so I've saved up some cash for my studies, however I assumed that I could start in 2008 somewhere. I haven't studied for 18 years so I may need to do some prep courses to get me back into the swing of things before I sit any NET exams etc. (especially for the Maths!)

Hi guys I've just joined the forum and am investigating ADN courses in nursing schools in the Orlando area. The two I'm currently looking at are Seminole Community College and Herzing CC. I've just spoken to Herzing and they said that 500 students will sit the NET for 24 places in July. Is this level of competition normal for nursing schools? All I know about Seminole is that you enrol for General Education courses and a few pre-req's and then when these are complete you sit the NET. What happens then? Could you end up not getting a place even though you passed the test and have been studying at the college for months? I'm amazed that ADN programmes are this competitive, or is it only at Herzing Community College? Any help or info would be great. Thanks, micaela

Hi guys, my name is Micaela. I've just joined the forum and have many questions, so I apologise in advance! I'm a 36 year old italian, living in Italy and I desperately want to study in the states to become an RN. I've had a look a quite a few colleges offering an Associates degree in nursing in Florida and am really not sure if I have the mental ability to pass the course! I finished the Italian equivalent of high school 20 years ago with pretty average grades and am really scared that I may not even get through the pre req's! Does anyone know how hard the academic side of an AS nursing degree is. Can I get through it with hard work or is it really impossible to anyone with below average grades? Also can you have lower scores to try to get onto an LPN course first and then upon completion tansfer onto the ASN - is this an easier route? If anyone could offer advice and calm me down that would be great because I am very nervous that I may not be able to realise my dream because of my age and qualifications!
