  1. Hello- Does anyone know of any other evening/weekend nursing programs in Philadelphia aside from LaSalle university? I am interested in associates or bachelors. I hope someone will respond. Thanks
  2. I can't wait to preserve and save lives it has been my goal since 1997.
  3. I hope to get in for fall 2009 as well. I will probably take my second religion class during intersession just to get it over with. I don't know why they make you take two religion courses. Good luck to you!
  4. I don't like taking all of these pre-reqs especially since there is no guarantee you will get into the actual nursing program. Now the new thing is you also have to take the NET test and I am dismayed. I hope to get into the program and I will stay there because I have heard good things about the actual nursing program. I am inpatient and things just seem to move a little to slow for me. I am taking A&PI and mircrobiology in the spring in Summer I Iam taking A&PII and statistics and then I can get evaluated for the achieve program wish me luck--
  5. I am currently taking chemistry and philosophy.
  6. Is anyone in the LaSalle University pre-nursing program? If so, I would like to hear your thoughts on the program. I am currently a student there and tired of all of the pre-reqs they require.
  7. Does Eastern have an evening program? I mean a program that classes start after 4pm.
  8. I am taking A&PI and microbiology in the spring.
  9. I am a nursing student at LaSalle and have been working at CHOP for 3 years. I started out as a medical secretary II and now am a Research Coordinator. The salaries for these positions are competitive. Medical secretary III will minimally pay $40,000 and Research coordinators make more. I have been in touch with the nurse recruiter several times and yes they do like to hire from within. My former supervisor graduated from LaSalle and was hired right after graduation her foot was already in the door and so is mine.
  10. I really want to get my BSN and go for my MSN my goal is nursing research! An ASN is not enough for me at this point in my life. Although I wish my financial situation was better years ago because I would have pursued nursing much sooner.
  11. Thanks for the warnings about Holy Family University. After careful consideration I have decided not to attend their nursing program. I don't have money to waste and after being accepted I continued to hear bad things about the program. I have recently applied to La Salle, Drexel and Villanova. I am on pins and needles waiting for a letter. Personally, I feel by attending any of those institutions I will be a recipient of a quality education. I just got my deposit back from Holy Family and am now looking forward to vacation. I hope a decision is made soon. Thanks again for the advice.
  12. I have checked into the following programs: Thomas Jefferson University MSN on-line (Center City) Holy Family University MSN on-line (Northeast Philadelphia) Drexel University MSN on-line ( University City) All of the above are in Philadelphia Hope this helps
  13. I am taking a required Religion class because I will attend a catholic school and also taking Microbiology. I am very nervous and excited!! I can't wait to be a nurse!!!!
  14. Hello- I am planning to attend Holy Family Nursing School in the fall. I need to work full time so this part time option works for me. The school is accredited and they are selective. One poster on this site indicated that Holy Family nurses are dumb. Personally, I don't know anyone that has attended this program. School is what you make it. If we follow the protocol, show up for class, do the hard work and do well in clinicals and pass the NCLEX exam we will be quality nurses. They have a high NCLEX pass rate you cannot go to the next level of classes until you pass a comprehensive test. I think we will be well prepared. If I find that these classes are not up to par I will transfer but honestly, I think we will be fine there and will still be able to keep our jobs so we can maintain our lifestyle and pay for school. Good luck!!
  15. Hello- I have bipolar disorder and have been accepted to nursing school. I am hesitant to get the physical because it wants you to state mental illness. I am afraid to do this because there is so much stigma attached. I worry all the time if I this will make them alter their decision or if I can get the Board license. Bottom line----I just completed a Bachelor of Science degree and took a full-time load on evenings and weekends. I did well and at the same time am married and raising two children and worked 40 hours a week while doing the aforementioned. I know I will be a good nursing student and a quality nurse but I do wonder if I would be wasting my time in school if I can't get a license because of this or if a potential employer would not hire me because of this. I was diagnosed with mild bipolar two years ago. I take my meds daily and have been doing fine. As you can see from the above statements this illness has not stopped me from doing anything I have wanted to do. I hope it does not stop me now. Please post anything about this subject. I look forward to hearing what you have to say!
  16. I just received my acceptance letter on Saturday and I was thrilled. However, I will heed your message. The main reason I wanted to attend Holy Family was the cost and most importantly they have a night and weekend program. I really need to work during the day. I plan to give these classes my all and when I graduate I do feel I will be a quality nurse. It's what you put into it that counts. However, if I could afford not to work my first choices were the following: Drexel Ace, Thomas Jefferson University Fact and Villanova's BSN Express. I would love to go to any of the above shcools. However, because of my work situation I am looking forward to going to Holy Family. However, should my situation change I would transfer as well. Good luck.
  17. Holy Family University in Pennsylvania. Classes start May 2007. What should I do to prepare? I am so excited!! :balloons:
  18. I can't petition for the BSN program at the college I want to go to until December 2007. Which would mean starting in January 2008 and graduation in 2011 ugh......
  19. I am not planning on going to the ACE program. I hope to attend Holy Family University because it is nights and weekends and I can keep my day job. I have heard nothing but good things from former students that graduated from that porgram. They say it is very intense but since you can't work you do get a lot of study time. I hope this helps.
  20. I provide administrative support to five doctors in a busy Radiology dept. at a large hosptial in PA. This is a great environment and I am learning alot. I am currently taking a pre-nursing course and should start nursing classes in summer 2007. Yes I work 40 hours per week. I hope there will be a position for me once I pass the NCLEX. This is a great place to work!
  21. I currently am working 40 hours per week and taking a pre-nursing course on-line. If all goes well I will be starting the BSN program in summer2007. I will still work 40 hours per week and attend school on nights and weekends. Financially I have no choice. I am not afraid to do this because I recently finished a Bachelor of Science in Communications and it was an accelerated program. 12 weeks of work were crammed into six weeks. Most semesters I took 12-18 credits. I went to school at nights and every Saturday. My GPA was high and I received 2 academic achievement awards. I have a husband and two children. We all survived. I am not stressing this time around. I want to be a nurse so badly I know I can work full time, go to school and do well. I already proved this to myself. Go for it!!! Financially many people can't afford not to work. Good luck!
  22. I am impatiently waiting for the mailman to come and bring me my acceptance letter. I hope all goes according to plan because I only applied to one school. If all goes well I will start classes summer 2007 and finish in spring 2010. I am thrilled to say the least!!! Good luck to all of you.
  23. Great news! I wish my school would email me. The wait is killing me. I stalk the mailman!
  24. The letters should come out at the end of March. I am tired of waiting!!!
  25. I am impatiently waiting for one letter. A decision should be mailed by the end of the month.
