Acclerated BSN programs in CA
There is actually a spell check available on this particular allnurses.com program. One only needs to use it. I am not such a perfectionist to say that people should not make spelling mistakes, but I saw "there" being replaced with "their" etc. and it's hard to overlook when my first degree was in English Literature. You should have a basic knowledge of reading and writing if you are to undertake an accelerated program. That was my point. No disrespect to the miss-spellers out there.

Acclerated BSN programs in CA
It looks like there are a lot of old posts out there about Accelerated BSN Programs. I would encourage those of you who are applying to be at your best. They are, after all, highly competitive and challenging. You are required to have the basic BS or BA requirements already met prior to going into an accelerated program. The bulk of the material is nursing focused only, as opposed to other BSN programs. Perseverance, discipline, intelligence, creativity and a desire to learn would be more accurate "crutches" that helped me excel through my program. I completed my MSMC program in May of 2008 and practice nursing in LA. I found the MSMC program to be challenging and frustrating at the same time-as all nursing programs tend to be. Any good program should challenge you to adapt and overcome. It's what we do in real life nursing on a daily basis!

New LPN moving to CA (Concerned!)
 Check out the VA Medical Center! Great job, they'll help pay for your education and it rocks to work here. Look at usajobs.gov for your area.

Join the Military?
Your back problems will no doubt keep you out of the military. they have great programs, but there is nothing worng with taking loans out in order to complete your program. There are plenty of accelerated nursing program out here that only take a year to complete a BSN (with your last degree and prerequisites). Joining the military is a scary option at this time in the game.

higher pay for BSN grads?
The WLA VA Hospital pays their new grads with BSN's at least 10,000 dollars more a year and also only promotes their BSN nurses. This is due to the research that shows better patient outcomes with higher nursing education. The VA will also help pay you to get your BSN and MSN and PhD, so it isn't a win lose situation. This is not to say that ADN nurses do not work hard, this is just the reality at my hospital.

Entry all RN's be BSN's
The VA medical center won't promote you unless you have your BSN. The evidence supports that the higher the education, the better the patient outcomes. As an LVN, I couldn't disagree more on a very individual basis. I think the evidence fails to support my claim.
