  1. I live in Monmouth County, want to work in NYC...Staten Island, Brooklyn or Manhattan---Originally from Brooklyn..thanks
  2. If you live in NJ and commute to NY please respond. I need to find work in NY and having a hard time. Need some ideas. Thanks!
  3. 63 an hour??? How is that? Is that agency? I need to make that, but i'm too far from philly.
  4. I like that....lol....mild psychosis and ADD. Sounds like me! There are lots of different personalities in the ED, that's for sure, but staying calm is key....something I'm learning everyday since I am a newbie.
  5. Craig, Thank you so much for that story! I am a newbie in the ER. Newbie as in "new grad". This really helps. Please feel free to forward any other learning opportunities or tips. Rose
  6. If you live in NYC you have plenty of options. There are new grad programs, start looking into them now. My suggestion, call the hospital's nurse recruiter and ask about new grad internships in the ICU. I'm a new grad and was just offered an ICU position. However, I was somewhat reluctant because they didn't offer the full six-month internship as most hospitals do. I turned it down and am happy to say that I'll be working in the ED at another facility that does offer 6mos. So, be assertive and confident when you're are calling. Be sure to have your resume in tip top shape. They really look to see that you've crossed your t's and dotted your i's. And, one more suggestion, if you've had a great gpa through school, put it on your resume. Good luck and let us know!
  7. UPDATE: I've decided not to take the ICU position. I have found something more convenient for me as a single mom. I will be working in the ED and on orientation for 6 months. I'm much more relieved because I was stressing over childcare. I thought I had it covered, but things changed. Now my job will be five days a week, I am five minutes away and I can easily get my kids ready every morning and on the bus without any added stress. They'll only need childcare 1-2 hours a day after school. I feel like the weight has been lifted since my hours are so great and I can still be a mom. Thanks for all your great advice, tips and support...hey, not that I won't be nervous in the ED, it's just that the stress that I would have had with worrying about my kids while learning in the ICU would have been enormous. I have enough wrinkles! Feel free to send more great tips and advice my way!
  8. Thank you so much. You made some very good points. I guess what I really wanted to say was just that, I want to become as familiar with technique and procedure as possible and build confidence. I know that once I feel more confident, I will be less anxious. Thanks again!
  9. I am a new grad and just accepted a position in ICU/intermediate care unit. I am so excited, but I'm very nervous...I know that it will take time for me to get over being nervous and feeling comfortable. How long before a new grad feels comfortable in a critical care environment? I just keep saying to that I'm throwing myself right into the fire, but I will learn so much. Everyone who I tell that I'm a new grad going into ICU makes a face and says, "wow, you're brave"! That makes me even more nervous. So, any tips from fellow RN's?? Thank you.
  10. I am in Monmouth County. I've applied to every hospital around. I was willing to commute to RWJ, but never got a call back. I guess I'll just keep trying and waiting Thanks for the input.
  11. Good luck...glad it worked out for you. R
  12. Any luck? Did you get in? I have been trying since March 07.
  13. Where are the jobs???? Anyone know of any new grad programs starting in hospitals? I'm very discouraged and I'm so shocked by one particular institution in New Brunswick. No one gets back to you and you get very little information when you do happen to get someone on the phone. Their website has the same available positions on it since I've been checking from March. They have not added anything new at all. I cannot believe I worked so hard through school only to be at this point of insanity. I feel like I've been lied to. Thanks, need to vent.:angryfire
  14. Hi thanks for you supportive words. I haven't gone that route yet, I was trying not to because I really wanted to start fresh in the hospital. I guess that's going to have to be my next thing. Had two more interviews today, but as usual, I heard, we have nothing right now.
