Got the job!!!
Hi, just wanted to post that I was offered and excepted a position in the NICU. I graduate and take the boards in May. I smiled for 2 hours after I got the job. I am so happy. It really helped my confidence in regards to accepting this position as a new grad from all of the posts and discussions that the NICU nurses provide on this board. I feel that there are alot of people who support the idea of new grads in the NICU and have confidence we will do well. So thanks everyone!

Relocating to Largo, Fl. need info
Thanks for the info everybody! I have been away from the computer for some time now so I just got a chance today to check for replies. I really am looking forward to going to FL soon. We, up here in MI, just got our dose of winter...about 8-10 inches of snow. Thanks again.

Relocating to Largo, Fl. need info
Hi, I am possibly moving to Largo, FL in May. I was hoping someone would have any info about the hospitals in the area e.g. Morton Plant, Clearwater Community, or any others (especially a childrens hosp). I want to know the starting pay and if you've heard, or personally know of anything about the hospitals above. My parents live there and have neighbors who are nurses who claim pay is around $25/hr (that is starting pay with shift diff.) but I tend to think it is probably a lot less so any help would be very much appreciated. I am going to FL in March to check things out myself but it would be nice to read what people living there have to say. Thanks

does giving a suppository count as a med?
Thanks everyone for the support. I will be at work this weekend and am asking our assistant manager to let her nurses know , or remind them, that I CANNOT pass meds yet. I'm glad to see others were externs and have dealt with the negative things that I have, and yet still finished school. I am in the process of a transfer to another floor. So hopefully the change will do it for me. Thanks again everyone!

does giving a suppository count as a med?
I completely agree. And they are not very mature at all. In fact ever since I've worked on my floor with them I have had doubts about nursing in general. They've only exposed me to constant complaining about everything they have to do. Hopefully nurses are not like them everywhere or I'll have to change professions. I can't see myself working with people like that for another 30 + years.

does giving a suppository count as a med?
Hi, I was just wondering if a suppository is a medication. I thought it is. I was told buy the nurse to administer one to her patient(I'm a Nurse Extern-No license yet). Anyway they all thought it was funny making me do it, not like I haven't done it many times before at clinicals. But I thought it counted as passing a med and that I shouldn't been told to do it. The patient didn't wind up needing it so I never did give it. What do you think?

shaving
Thanks for your replies. That definately explains it for me. I'll have to let him know too. Have a good one!

shaving
I don't mean to sound stupid, but I don't really know anything about the procedure. So I'm still a little confused why they did this to his leg when the operation was on his shoulder. Why would they put cautery pads on his leg?

shaving
Hello, My dad had surgery in April, a repair of a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder. Anyway, when he got home we noticed that they shaved his leg. Is there a certain reason for this or was it a mistake? Thanks

Question about working in the Nursery.
Thanks for the info everyone. I have floated to many different types of floors and not found one that I thought I would want to do permanently. However, when I went to mother-baby I truely enjoyed it. I was so happy to hopefully have found where I want to work when I graduate.

Question about working in the Nursery.
Hello, I've been viewing this site for about a year I think, but this is my first post. I'm about to start my last year of nursing school and I work as a nurse extern. Recently I was floated to a mother-baby(couplet)floor...I loved it, but I only worked in the nursery, not with the mothers. My question is... besides the NICU, is there a type of floor where you can care for babies only? On the floor I went to they alternate daily who works with moms and who works with babies. I thank you in advance for any replies.
