I took it in highschool as well. But, I was under the impression that if I hadn't have taken it in highschool I would have had to taken it. I don't really understand why though bc obviously if you are in a nursing program there is already a standerized test at the end of the program...NCLEX. So yeah... I just as curisous as to I have had to probably taken it if I wouldn't have previously taken it. There was even a spot on one of forms I had to sign that I had to put the date of when I took the ASVAB! So IDK?.

I really busted my butt to get my stuff together and in, also my recruiting officer was really efficient too. So, I got everything in in 2 weeks. But also I have not had too many jobs and I have only in 2 places my entire life. I know a majority of the SF86 was stating your former jobs and residences! Such a long process!! I finish it so fast bc I was worried that if I didn't get it in soon that they would already reach their limit for how many they can accept. My recruiting officer told me that they only accept 25 in the whole US each year! ..... do u know if that is true??? Bc that was reason I rushed my application! I started my application that week of Jan and turned it in the 2nd week in Feb and I just heard back!! It took forever!! but I guess the wait is definitely worth it! Good luck!!! ~Lisa

You all were talking about the Navys student loan repayment program... how does that work?? ... do you apply for it when you get out of college?? I will going into the Navy after I graduate and want to know all the oppurtunities to pay back all my loans as well. Thank you, Lisa

I just got accepted into the NCP and part of the application process was going to meps and taking the ASVAB (which I already took in highschool, so i didn't have to take it). So... don't be suprised if you talk to a nursing recuiter and they too tell u have to talk the ASVAB. But, yes dedinitely look into the NCP! I am really excited and i feel it is one of the decisions i have ever made, besides changing my major to nursing. :)

As far as I know the nurse candidate program is annually and the application process begins in October. This year they are only selecting 25 people and already 10 have been chosen! I just began the process and will turn in all the parts probably by the end of this week. There is sooo much paper work and loops that you have to go through.... as for the financial trouble... they do ask in a background check form (SF86) if you have every claimed bankruptcy and defauted on stuff...things like that. So I am not sure if that would hold you back b/c I never asked the recuiter about that b/c it was never a question of mine. Well good luck with everything!

I am currently in the process of applying for NCP...all paper work is done and went through MEPS. But he (recuiter) never really told me about OIS. I checked it out on the internet and to tell you the truth it seems pretty intense! Little worried.... i'm not going to lie, i am a softy and if someone yells at me for abosolutely no reason, yes i prob will cry! Are they as vicious as they are in achually bootcamp???? I can run, and looked at time requirements for the running and they seem really tough!!! Do you really have to run 3.5 miles in 27min??

Soo..I am applying for the nurse candidate program in the Navy and have several Q's about OIS.(That's why I googled and got this great website!) You all seem very knowledgable!! Well... I have told people about my plans for the Navy and of course all hear are horror stories about someones cousin or friend who went through the officer training!! From what they tell me it sounds awfull!! Running all the time, even on an injury and feeling hungry all the time!! Do they feed peopel adequetly there??? The lady that told me about this, her cousin had training in Pensecola (sp) Fl... is the training in Rhode Island different. Ohh... and how many miles do they make you run??? I appoligize for all the questions... I just get these horrible thoughts in my head the scare me and me apprehensive!! Hopefully someone can get my thoughts on the right path. Thanks!
