  1. I work for a Rehab/ Long term care facility that is ran by a big corporate well known facility. My co-workers and myself need some advice and/or help with a problem. We are getting more and more paperwork that must be done. As of right now it takes us approx. 4hrs to do the minor paper work. We also must care for our patients, by giving out meds, treatments, etc. Our administrative staff are of no help either due to they are also continuously receiving more paperwork also, or their job requirements are continually increasing also. We are not allowed to do overtime, if we do we must punch out and leave early the next day. Our patient care is being affected. If we don't finish the paperwork we are putting our jobs and licenses on the line, but if we finish the work we face being fired or getting a written warning. The administrator is receiving bonuses for keeping our facility at full census and no overtime by any staff members, no matter what dept. they are in. We are all in fear of our licenses and our jobs. There has been harassment going on there, by some supervisory staff. the harassment has been reported to the administrative staff but nothing has happened. A lot of staff is just leaving. We need help for our Patients sake. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  2. I don't know about you all but I'm a LPN. A dang good one at that. I can put most RNs under the table with starting IVs and with my knowledge. I have found alot of very stupid RNs out there. There are also a lot of stupid LPNs and alot of good smart nurses. Why do we need this arguement when we should all be combining our forces to get more nurses out there in the field. My understanding where I live is that Nurse educators would take a big cut in pay to teach. In my state us LPNs can do almost anything a RN can do. So please re-think your feelings about getting rid of us LPNs. I do not have the time nor the money to get my RN or I would. We are humanbeings also
  3. Thank you for your posts everyone. Unfortunately we can not give morphine, or as we , usually give is Roxanol Sl, without family consent. Her son doesn't think she needs pain meds. You all made me realize that yes her son is a Dr. but he is still her son and a human like the rest of us. I keep you all posted on what happens. thanks again.
  4. I don't mean to complain but I need to get this off my chest. There is a couple of families at my work that just can't let mom or dad just go, die. One in particular. He is a cardiologist, mom is dying, he never visits her really anyways. Now that mom is very close to death her wants everything done for her. Our unit MD even says that if we stop with the 2-3 antibiotics she would die. She moans everytime you touch her, but her son insists that we can put her on morphine. how do you deal with family members like this. I feel that our unit Dr. doesn't want to affend the cardiologist, so I don't think he is really advocating for the poor res. Any suggestions
  5. The other day I went for an interview for a Nursing job. Which the Nurse interviewing me stated that she didn't think LPNs are allowed to do assessments.
