  1. no i'm in buffalo, ny. i'm really hoping it doesn't get down to the point of failing out of nursing school, but i'm hoping that if i did have to go with a different career but in that field that alot of my credits would transfer over like u said in occupational therapy for example or who knows, but i'll cross that bridge when i come to it.
  2. actually there are quite a few of us that agree the instruction is horrible. i get 60s and 70s on these written tests but yet receive high 90s on my care plans at the hospital. these written tests weigh more than the clinical rotations and these tests aren't an accurate measurement as how good a nurse we're gonna be, but unfortuntely with any program they don't seem to care. as far as takin it to a higher level we think it's gonna fall on deaf ears but it's worth a shot, but yes hopefully it won't get to that point, but all in all invested alot of time and energy into this program, including pre reqs back in 06, so maybe mid semester if it's lookin like i gotta talk another pathway i'm gonna talk to an advisor and he or she can stir me in the right direction, just don't want all this to go to waste, thanx.
  3. well first of all in reply to many replies to this thread i am not in any way implying that an LPN is a consolation prize for failing out of RN school, first of all it hasn't even gotten to that point yet, i am still in my third semester i am just researching back up plans. i ask about LPN programs with the credits that I ALREADY HAVE that will safice an LPN program which i can later possibly transition into an RN program. i have invested so much time and energy into the RN program that if i am unsuccessful with the RN program i would at least like my credits to go SOMEWHERE in nursing and that is why i ask about the LPN programs...so if someone can shed some light on me again that would be appreciated
  4. hi all, so here's my thing, i'm in my 3rd semester of nursing school ---AGAIN---if i fail out this time i've completely failed out of the program. however i am looking into some LPN boards challenge options. i have completely successfully 2 of 4 semesters of my ADN program, i do have 2 semesters of completed med surge clinicals, i have peds and mother baby clinicals completed successfully, i do not have psych because that is not offered until 4th semester. can anyone assist me or have any advice as to what to do and how to go about challenging another state's LPN boards? NY state does NOT offer this option. any help would be great, will cross that bridge when i come to it, hopefully won't have to cross it but definitely keeping backup options in the back of my mind, thanx.
  5. OK i'm just wondering because there were some temp jobs that i only worked for a few months, the one job i had the supervisor doesn't even work there anymore i don't think and i don't want there to be any problems w/references ( professoinal wise i would only use my current employer i doubt my previous employers remember me enough to give me a good reference) so when they do the employment checks, is it only like where i worked and for how long? like it won't say like reason for leaving or anything just employment verification? thanks!!
  6. hey guys! i'm actually a year away from taking my boards and i wish to be employed w/a las vegas hospital system. i'm actually just creating a general profile on one of the websites just to get my name out there but my healthcare work history goes back to like 05 and i have quite a few jobs between temp jobs, and scheduling conflicts w/school (as a reason for having to leave), some of the jobs i don't even think the supervisor works there anymore, do i have to put EVERY SINGLE PRACTICE i've worked at? or can i just put like last 3 years experience? i'm just wondering if nevada does an employment check??? anyone know?? any help or advice would be great! just tryin to get the ball rolling! thanks!! sara
  7. Hello, i just got my TEAS test results i scored an overall of 78.2%. my question is in the next few years when i want to apply for my BSN, do i have to take the TEAS test again or will the one i just took carry over and they'll go by that one? thanks!
  8. hey, i'm just about to start my nuring program next month after 2 years of taking mickey mouse prereq classes i'm finally in a program. won't take me very long looking at about a year and a half after the fall semester but anyway i'm tossing around the idea of beoming a travelling nurse for a few years to pay off a good chunk of my student loans. will travelling nurse agencies take in new grads? can i continue with my BSN being a travelling nurse? what's the starting salary in general? any help would be appreciated thanks!
  9. thanks! do you know if they pay out the cost of tuition previous to your employment like all ur nursing classes or just ongoing education from the time u start employment? thanks
  10. hello i am an alumni of UNLV i am currently in my hometown of buffalo, ny and was just accpeted into a nursing program. i intend on moving back to Vegas once i get my RN in about a year and a half-two years. Are there any hospitals offering tuition assistance for signing an employment contract with them? If not does anyone know of any good scholarship websites they can direct me to? Thanks!
  11. ok it is the middle of the night and i am typing this post because i was just awakened by one of my recurring vomit nightmares where people just randomly vomit in my dreams and i wake up all eeew and my stomach's all turned and stuff. is this phobia going to go away with experience?? i am just worried that everytime i come across someone vomiting i'm not going to be able to handle it professionally. advice-Thanks!
  12. OH SISTERMIKE in answer to your question sorry i forgot to tell you when you asked what kind of work i do in NY, i work in the purchasing department for the WNY hospitals, i make 12 an hour right now, honestly i'm 25 almost 26, that's the most i have EVER made in my life and i have a BA. i was an MA for a little while making only 9.50 at one job and 10 at the other.
  13. Well here's the thing, i'm moving in january, and i have a job that pays 12 bucks an hour now and i am not about to change jobs just to get experience in a field i am not even permanantly going into, and then only to quit it. also i live in buffalo where the job market is very small. second of all, didn't mind dorming, i HATED having a roommate, i won't even live with my best friend, i'm the type of person that living situation wise things have to be my way i just like things my way and that's it so roommate won't help. i'm not looking into real expensive places i found some 1 beddys for like 600-650 a month so with utilities and my other bills i'll probably need to make about 1800 bucks a month. as for the loan my parents already co-signed for a loan for me and paid it off i'm not going to ask them again nor will i put someone else in that situation. these are MY loans and i don't want any one else's name on them but MINE. are there like any evening date entry jobs or anything like that? i really just need something that's gonna keep a roof over my head, even if it's hosting at a restaurant or waitressing which i have no experience in. so that's my situation as it stands...
  14. Well what sort of job would you suggest that i apply for? The last time i was out there i was living in the dorms working part time for 8 bucks an hour so i didn't really need to be picky. now i have to keep a roof over my head and go to school, i can't get approved for a personal loan for that amount, my parents will not co-sign for me, if i can't get into the hosptials or the hotels, where do i apply that will pay decent and work around my school schedule i mean its a 24/7 town, i'm becoming a little discouraged by what you're telling me. would like a hostess at a restaurant pay well like at bahama breeze or hard rock or something?
  15. Yeah that was going to be my next plan, how hard is it to get a job in the hotels as like a front desk person or reservations or something like that?
  16. Hi i'm going to be looking for a job as an overnight whatever at one of the hosptials, either at the admissions desk or an aid so i can go to school during the day, i don't have any certifcation do the hosptials only hire aids or MA's with certs? also what's the payscale like for just a regular aid or MA and anyone know what the shifts are like for overnights? Thanks.
  17. well basically that the pre-nursing gpa requirement is 2.5 and the BSN requirement is 3.0, and i guess they're doing away with the matriculation thingy and going straight from test scores and gpa to get into the BSN program.
  18. Nevermind, I spoke with another adviser and got everything explained to me perfectly thanks anyway all! :monkeydance:
  19. I spoke with an advisor about the PRE NURSING and it's 2.5 for PRE 3.0 for BSN. Now i need someone to exaplain something to me because the advisor i spoke with over the phone i don't think understood my question. OK...so let's say my GPA to enter PRE NURSING is 2.5...ok that's my other college work...NOW...ok i'm admitted into pre nursing and finish up my pre-req's at UNLV let's say like 5 classes and i get all A's in them...obviously my GPA would be a 4.0...what's my GPA for the BSN entrance, do they average the 2.5 (all other college coursework) in with the 4.0 or how do they configure your BSN entrance GPA?
  20. Hello, ok i am getting different GPA requirements for the pre-nursing program, one catalog says 2.5, another one says 3.0, someone in the advisement office said 2.5 but i she didn't really sound too sure. the website said 3.0, in one of the catalogs it said current student 2.5, transfer student 3.0...which one is it??? Thanks.
  21. Hi, I am planning on coming back to UNLV in the fall of 08 and I may not have a choice but to work full time for the program, my credit is not horrible but it's not immaculate enough to get a private loan in an amount enough to cover all my living expenses on top of my tuition. Can anyone reccommend a private loan company that is pretty lenient on credit history where i can get approved for that amount? I even tried sallie mae for the school i'm at now and i couldn't get anything, i'm taking out fed loans at the moment but i don't think they're gonna wanna give me 15K a semester, or will they? Anyone advise, thanks.
  22. Hi I am a grad of UNLV of 2004, and I am planning on going back in the fall of 08 to finish up my pre req's and apply to the BSN program. The min GPA for pre nursing is 3.0 OR take 9 UNLV credits and establish a new 3.0 GPA. right now i am at a freaking 2.915 or something ridiculously close to a 3.0, now if i still don't have that 3.0 by the time i apply could they take the 3 highest of my pre req's that i already took at UNLV and use those towards my new GPA or do i have to take all new classes? i know it's a stupid question i know but i am trying to get as much information as possible about this program so i know what i need to do as a backup plan once i get there. Thanks.
  23. Yeah it helped a little, the math class that i have to take here is MT 125, so it probably won't be much different now here's another question. Let's say gosh darn forbid i get below a B AGAIN ok now i'm blackballed from the 4 year BSN program. so say i get my RN at CCSN and transfer to UNLV, are they still going to hold that stupid math course against me or just look and verify that i have taken that credit? because CCSN would be my plan B. Thanks for your help! :monkeydance:
  24. Well at the college i'm at now there's really only like one option for the college math and it's freaking hard, i mean i took it when i was 18 and i'm 25 now so i don't know maybe it will be easier i just don't want to blow it, whereas UNLV there's a few options that will satisfy the math requirement, so do i take the math here and risk not being able to apply for the program or wait til i get to UNLV and take maybe a less challenging course there? The math here, it's like algebra, trig, calculus, logrithims, i mean it's hard. What math courses would you reccomend at UNLV that would be a pretty safe bet to pass with a B?
  25. ok i know i have to have a B in college math for the UNLV BSN program and i got a stinking C in this course i took like 8 years ago so i need advice...do i take the same course here and i know it's gonna be freaking hard and i don't want to blow it cuz i know i only have 2 chances OR...do i wait to get to unlv and take an easier math along with the rest of the last of my pre req's?
