Verbal order
Responding to rn/writer, I have no intention to protect that nurse; and this is the reason why I suggested bstern to report it to the Nursing Supervisor. The facility will make a decision as whether it should be reported to the BON or not. Patient's safety is always my #1 priority.

Verbal order
Normally, something like this all you have to do is to report it to a Nursing Supervisor and he/she will go from there. However, you mentioned about the Dept of Ed. Actually, it is the BON. My educated guess is you have a problem with that nurse and this is the reason why I said "stepping on your toes." From my baby experience in the nursing field, unless you wanted someone to be out of work, and out of this nursing field, and out to a homeless shelter. Normally, no one will want to report it to an organization that has the power to take away your license...this is too extreme. Don't forget! Today it is her...tomorrow it might be your turn. Come around and go around.

Where in NYC do you buy your shoes/scrubs/scope etc.?
Sorry, the 2nd one I mentioned is located in Manhattan. I made the mistake and not aware of it. The first one is located in Brooklyn, and there are a few of them and they are not far from Long Island University.

Filipino nurses
When you are talking about African American, do you mean the ones that are from the Islands, Africa, or the ones that were born in America? I am working in New York City. The ones from the Islands, most of the time they speak French or Creole; and the ones from Jamaica speak English in a sense that is so hard to understand...Jamaican accent!!!! I don't have any problems with that. As far as I am concerning, when I talk to them, are they going to talk to me in French or Creole? The most important question you have to ask yourself...Ms. Military Spouse...when you are talking to those Filipino nurses, do they talk to you in Tagalog. Yes/No??? I guess life is still too long for some, their lives are so good and they have to create problems for themselves and others..... We even have nurses speak Polish or Russian, and they talk to themselves in Polish or Russian....and nobody has any problems with that. By the way, the Filipino talk to themselves not in English, and that is OK to me. They are nice to work with, and always offer help. Good luck with you soul searching!!!

LPN License
Interesting..... Up here in New York, fingerprint is not required. I was an LPN.... After I passed the NCLEX-PN dated back to 1999, I got my license in 7 days including Sat. & Sun. We pay more $$$ to LPN's in New York City.

Filipino nurses
It does sound like you are a racist. If you are black, and I say, Are there any hospitals that do not hire any black nurses? I would like to apply for a job over there. Or, if you were white, and I say, Are there any hospitals that do not hire any white nurses? I would like to send my resume over there. If I ever say the same thing you said, "Are there any facilities that do not employ any Filipino nurses? I would like to email my resume over there. Do I sound like a racist to you? I don't know what's wrong with you. Are you OK?

how do I resign?
Give the letter to the Director of Nursing.

Is it too late for me?
The average age of all the U.S. nurses is 47, so I guess you are way too young for this field. My recommendation is....Wait another 12 years to enter the program.

Disclosure of Depression to Nursing School
My first question is...If depression has nothing to do with their decision, why would they ask that question anyway.
-
Verbal order
He says and she says.... I don't know who is right and who is wrong... Wow, if an intern told me to give methadone 10mg IM stat, and I gave it. Later on, I asked him to write the order and he/she said "I never ordered it!" I will be in big trouble..... Fortunately, in the city owed hospital, except in the case of code call, nurses are not allowed to take any verbal orders. Just report it to the Nurse Manager is already good enough. Except that nurse stepped on you toes before, now you wanted to get even....getting her/him into a trouble.

My school Sucks!
One of my classmates failed HESI, but got her degree in 11/2003(it was not the required to pass it)...4 months later, she took the NCLEX-RN. She passed it the 1st time she took the exam....BINGO.

LPN first?
LPN and LVN are the same. LPN stands for Licensed Practical Nurse. LVN stands for Licensed Vocational Nurse. Look different but the are doing the same work. If you want to become RN, you may want to use the LPN as a stepping stone. Whether there is a wait list or not, it is hard to say, it varies from state to state.

Read the first post and then the post #26, read and re-read then think a little be deeper...she was zeroed in on certain group. And to say, she had 6+ experience and she has never seem anything like that..Should she combined post#1 and post#26...the outcome is totally different...she basically answer her question in post#26...all you have to do is to go back and forth...and think....

Nurses not doing assessments
Post# 26 gucci rush stated that "wondering if assessment were taught in their country. I also work with other filipino nurses who are very thorough and do their job well." Again, in post# 1, gucci rush stated that "My question is in other countries are they taught different because we all know here in the U.S. that assessing your patient is the first thing you are taught to do in school." It is very interesting to see that gucci rush brought out the argument and then she gave the contradictory answer to her owe argument. If that wasn't what other countries have taught, then how come some of gucci rush's coworkers did their job well as stated in post# 26. Apparently, they were taught about what to do. Otherwise, gucci rush has to change the original statement. It is very important not to attack your own argument, as I was taught in English 101. Anyhow, I think it is not only one specific group of people who are doing it. Black, white, Asian and Latino nurses are doing the same thing. Whether they graduated from colleges in other countries or colleges in our own backyard. I think the problem is caused by some other problems rather than they were taught in school or not.
