  1. I had one patient tell me women(allergy)- because they made him poor (reaction) Go figure
  2. Thanks Connyrn- sounds like you are working at the same place I am. At least I am on the same page with your educator for I am doing the same with out instittuion. I am telling them when in doubt to call and have also designed a badge for the primary RN with the criteria otherwise for calling. In my ICU setting we are always in a bed crunch - we are just waiting for hospitalists to get contracted- untill then it is just RT and the ICU RN along with the primary RN who is part of the RRT.
  3. From the classes I have taken for the BSN and the grad classes I have taken for both degrees- I love the program. I am returing Nov. 11th this year
  4. So did you start? How do you like it bluelorelai??
  5. I got my paper work accomplished and had to get a new counselor- been off since June-I am returning Nov. 11th. SHould be hearing soon what my first class will be??? When I completed the paperwork- in order for it to go through I had to inidciate that I work over 36 hours /week for my MSN-ed program.
  6. Congrats to all those who passed....you are helping me motivate I have been so involved with getting our rapid response team off the ground I have not had any time to study!
  7. At my institution we also have used IHI as a guide with out set up as well.
  8. Right now we are in are begining stages of assembling our RRT program where I am. I am one of the RNs who is doing the educating, documentation forms, policy writing etc,. So far for our institutional orders that have been approved as of right now are: Albuterol SVN, Narcan IV and may repeat X1 , Romazicon IV and may repeat X1 , Nitro SL, ASA PO, Morphine IV X 1, atropine IV, and a 250cc IV bolus may repeat X1.
  9. I have been thinking of taking this. I passed my CCRN last december. Been taking care of CV patients for over 6 years now. These are the next two I have been thinking about. Was thinking of taking these before I go back for my MSN/edu. Anything to be a more marketable teacher!
  10. I work 3 12's a week night shift. I think this was the best way for me to do my schooling. Classes move fast in the undergrad (BSN) classes they are 5 weeks long and an assignment is due weekly. It could be a personal paper or a team project. Primarily the assignments are due on Monday @ MN phoenix time- but of course it depends on the facilitator/instuctor. Some times I took 2-3 weeks off between classes. But school is just a laptop away and can be done at anytime. I got used to it after 2 classes- so if you do persue it do not get frustrated. Coucelors are wonderful assisntance. I loved my experineces, even though some of my teams were laxed with their part, and highly recommend it. I did not have to drive anywhere, except for the clinical part which was not terrible at all. For family health, you have to have a family visit(home health type) who needs some assistance or teaching - I had a freind who had a motor vechilce accidnet and needed some assistance. For the community part, I did a teaching project for my daughters home ec class on handwashing during flu season. For the leader and management clinical hours I followed my manager around and a vice prez of my institution to shadow them. Nurses are great resourceful people who can help you get through the process. Classes vary 15-20 students and they are from all over the states and sometimes the globe. Good luck- you will not be sorry if you go this route!
  11. I have been a member for 8 years. It costs $78/year (these costs have not gone up since I joined in 2000). The benefits are two great informative journals, other professional resources-online access- up to date information you can sign up for the email newsletter Free CEUs yearly Discounts on the yearly NTI ideas to network with other professionals information on certification if that is a route you plan to take
  12. I am starting the MSN program this September. I just finished my BSN three weeks ago through UoP. When I graduated I got to include 6 graduate credits towards both degrees. I can not wait to finish. Online classes are fun but a lot of work.
  13. I just graduated 3 weeks ago and for 16 classes- in less than 18 months costed me $21,000. The cost at that time was $430.00/credit. Now I beleive it is $515/undergrad credit. For each class that you take you also have a cost of $75.00 for library access with includes all of your books that you can get online. I only had to purchase 3 books outside of this during this time frame. 2 of these books are required when you start online classes since you have to learn APA and have a gramar book which are helpfull with all of the paper writinig.
  14. Heard a patient call her lady parts "the pie", the "business" and "coolie" LOL
  15. Have been on nights for over 14 years done 8's and 12 hrs shifts ...like it the best. Seems like you can get more done in a 24 hour period. (errands etc) Just have to "adjust" your life to fit this lifestyle. I have raised 2 kids while on nocs...been able to do volunteer work at school..go to school myself, and run a family business. Tried days...gone home with HA's...lived on Tylenol. Too much sensory overload!! On Nights you have less "politics", the admin. etc. Not to mention a higher wage...mine is $3.00/hr. More autonomy..the crew I work with is very cohesive..we work well as a team and I believe that is needed when staff is lower on nights. We have a mix of "New" and "Seasoned" staff..so we balance quite well. Bad points...we do not have residents..only ER doc's in the house if we need an emergency intubation..no pharmacist in the house we mix our own stats prn..sometimes no huck/secretary so we have to pick up the "other" pieces. Summer months are more difficult to sleep for me..love to be outside!!
