I'm with Bob N Va. Heck I can't believe only one person has suggested Ghent or West Ghent, close to the hospital. I think she would like west Ghent because it does have Taylor Elementary School which is great. If you work day shift, you better think of that drive home. Traffic can be killer. You could walk from West Ghent. West Ghent also has a great little neighborhood pool. Mallory Pool. A GREAT place to live!

Alright...let me try to respond here without crying...when my entir world was in her final days with OVCA, terrible ascites...I (a home health nurse at the time) begged for her to have TPN because she could not eat. I was not in nurse mode. I was in daughter mode.They let me give her TPN, even after telling me why it's not recommended. It was Dec 1st. I HAD to do everything I believed was needed to make her live longer, at least until Christmas. I remember hugging the hospice nurse when she agreed to start TPN. I remember how 2 weeks later I realized mom's tummy was getting bigger.The Hospice Nurse repeated exactly what she had told me 2 weeks ago, only this time I actually was able to accept the information. Mom's nurse was such an angel, that she realized I was grieving too hard to accept the rational for withholding fluid. Well now of course I understand why we do not like to give TPN, but only because I am now Hospice Nurse. If I was not a nurse, I probably would have gone the rest of my life questioning the decision to omit the TPN. I never would have had complete peace about it. So my point is...we are treating not only the patient, but also the devasted loved ones left on earth to wonder if they did "everything they could do". Sometimes people are just grieving too hard, and are too afraid to accept the logic. We have to give them peace and let them at least try. Mom died days after Christmas. I have never had such sincere admiration for anyone in my life, as I did for my mom's hospice nurse. Her patience with me, and her kindness in letting me try to help my mom, when she knew it wouldn't help, still to this day...brings me to tears. I became a Hospice Nurse because of my admiration for mom's nurse Suzanne Peebles RN.

Hi...I have never posted before, but am in a desperate situation here. I have been a nurse for many years doing HH and Hospice. I have an interview with Gentiva for a Home Health Specialist/Rn Liaison position. I have also been offered a position teaching nurse aides with another Co. The Gentiva job has better benifits and more than likely better$$$. But as a nurse I know$$$ is not anything if you are employeed in a 21st century sweat shop, and hate your life! I do not want a huge amount of stress. I am so over that. But Gentiva has good benifits. I do like going to the Al's, SNF's and such... Please...does anyone have any clue as to the job satisfaction with this position/company? I have seen all the negative comments about the company from the case managers who get pay per visit. I would hate that too. But this is an hourly or salary position I believe. Thanks a million

My agency gets many referrals for SNV to provide wound care to stasis ulcers, from doctor's office. This doctor's nurse also works for our Home Health agency. So a bunch of our business comes from this nurse's referrals. I admit the pt, call this doctors office to verify orders with this nurse, and here is what I am told" oh that wound will never heal, because of the pt's poor circulation, but here is the wound care bla bla bla." I schedule them for wound care, and discharge them in about 15 visits( as I have been told to do). Any more than 15 visits, and the company loses $$$.-My point is, I don't think we should take patient's that we know have a poor chance of healing and waste M'Cares money. Am I wrong to be upset about this ?

Hi. This is my first post. I have been in home health for 16yrs. I am so burned out on all the paper work, M'Care/OASIS,$$$$ focused care. I have just given my notice at work. Please tell me, is Hospice Nursing much different than HH in regards to the paper work ? I take paper work home every single night now. I am never finished working. I used to love my work, but now I hate. I believe hospice nursing is not a job, but rather a `calling'. I think this is what I am being called to do, but if it is as bad as HH with the paper work, I will not like it. Any advice ?
