Geriatrics without working in a nursing home?
I love working in a nursing home. You can go work in a doctors office or hospital but what other place could you go to know your residents. Hear their stories of how they were when the were young. And see how they are know and be a part of their life and staying with then through there decline and then the end of there life. Just not be there for a couple days. Daily caring for them, months, years. Even on holidays. They become family.

Nursing home/ Hospital
I am a new nurse for about 4 months now. And I work in a nursing home in the health care area. I was just wandering if I stayed here for a while is it going to be harder for me to go work at a hospital. I have heard that if you work in a nursing home you get labled as a nursing home nurse and hospitals won't hire you. Is this true?????

phasing out?
They tried that in San Antonio, Texas and when they realized that it was impossible to so they went back to having LPN staffed in hospitals. So, don't get discouraged .

Help! Please!
When I finished nursing school I bought the Saunders LPN NCLEX study cards and they help alot and the questions are formated the same. SO, you know what and how to read the question. In the books and CD they were not helpful to me. The cards have questions and rationals so u can understand the information.

Bunch of Questions for LTC LPN's.. Help I'm new!
Take a notepad and an open mind and ask plenty of questions. Ask you DON about what they want you to chart on. Like where I work we do medicare charting and any chages or Incidents that may have happened. And what you can't remember write down or any thing you may have to follow up on. So you always have something to reference to. Also, any thing you may need to look up to get more info write down. And it will get easier as you go along. Don't forget a sharpie.

Am I wrong???
I just got my nursing license in 11/07 and I work with some nurses from my classes. And I work in a nursing home. I was working with 2 classes mates and they let one go for not doing her duties like they wanted. And the other one is the same just doesn't complete tasks but they work with her. But hold me to a higher standerd. And tell my boss tells me "she is a new nurse be patient." and this annoyies me. Because they expect me to do more and put more work on me like monthly paper work but at the end of the day they say well what ever the other nurse doesn't finish, I need to get done(I don't even work in the same hall) Is this right or am I wrong to feel a little frustration. Should this really bother me?????
