Recently, I was teaching a class in PA caths with basic hemodynamics to the ER staff. I have VERY mixed feelings about the teaching of this class. The nurses that attended understood the lecture but I know it will not stick for long. My question is....Is this a waste of Education, on my part, or will this really be usefull? I want to hear from places that are actually using this in the E.R.. The Doctors are really pushing this to be done. However, with three more patients to take care of, is this a good practice?? Hummm I Dunno.

I am having the darndest time talking, these Docs and ER nurses, in too not ignoring or D/Cing the IO ( as soon as we get into the ER) that I worked hard to get. They waste time finding a venous access with a crashing patient! We use this contraption when we are having a tough time getting an I.V. or subclavian (i.e. Pt has exanguinated). This I.O can recieve 200cc/min of ANYTHING (Blood, fluid, and drugs). I wanted to know if anyone else is having this problem. At Halo-Flight we use the F.A.S.T. 1 manubrium I.O. that is WONDERFULL!! Why are they so darn hessitant??

What are some of the airway protocols for other Flight Teams. I work on a Rotor wing service in Texas: You have Three total (EMS+Flight Team) chances to use an ETT. If you fail (and you know we ALL do at times)we use a Combi tube or Cric them (depending on the MOI). I was curious about what was out there.

WHAT was the EKG saying...Mabey the Nitro was contraindicated...Like with a Right side MI?? Neo or Levo would have been better choices till the cause was found.......Tell your gut it's smarter than the doc

You have every right to be angry at this type of behavior outside of the work place . Although, it is ones time off. I would be saddened to see probing of my personal days off...no one would want us treating them at that rate. I belive if the person is not functioning to their capacity and you have proof test them.
