  1. I'm a new grad and have been on a surgical floor for about 3 month. I'm still in orientation because my preceptor and I have been floated to other floors for almost half of the past three month due to renovation in our floor, and when we were on other floors, my preceptor wouldn't allow me to have my own patients saying she's not comfortable with the floors herself. Usually we have 12 weeks orientation and I should be done by now. My manager found out me having no patients on other floors last week and said I could have two more weeks for my orientation and my preceptor and I would stay on our floor from now on, which is a great news for me. Honestly, I don't know what I really want. On one hand, I would like to continue my orientation as long as possible because I'm scared of working alone yet. But, at the same time, I feel like I want to be off it and work by myself making my own decisions not having to report everything I do to my preceptor and wait her decisions.....I don't know.... I would like to know if other orientees are also not paid their differentials on weekends and holidays. My manager said at first when I was hired that I wouldn't be able to work on weekends and holidays because I am new, then when my preceptor works on those days, I would have to follow any available RN or LPN on the floor. Then, later, she changed her mind and said I could follow my preceptor wherever she goes as far as I'm not clocking on weekends and holidays. They don't want to pay me my diffs! I feel it's not fair, but my preceptor said its pretty common for orientees in other palces, too. Is it?
  2. I took my test yesterday and it stopped at 75. I thought the questions were hard from the very beginning toward the end except several not that hard ones in the middle. But, the last question, #75, seemed to be definitely much easier than the others. Does that mean I failed? My result will be out tomorrow, and here I'm dying of anxiety. Just to think of having to study again for the test, OMG~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~.
  3. I'm graduating in May and will take the board around at the end of June or at the beginning of July. My friends at school have already got a job or applied for jobs. At first, I was going to begin job searching after I get my license. Now, many people around me already know where they're going to work after graduation and this makes me worried and nervous. Would it be too late if I wait until I get my license? I thought there would be no problem for jobs once I graduate the nursing school. Shall I start looking for jobs now? Some say if I want med/surg floor, then, I would be hired anytime. What do you think?
  4. I thought you can take NCLEX as many times as you want. But, I just checked NCSBN website, it said 'the minimum frequency within which a candidate may retake the test is established by policy by each individual board of nursing and NCSBN." I am in Georgia, how many time can I take NCLEX-RN in Georgia?
  5. Hi, I'm still a nursing student. I'll be graduating in May next year. Most of my friends in my class have worked as intern or extern before, but I haven't got a chance to because always something came up during my summer breaks. Also, now I'm pregnant with due date in March. If everything goes well, I'll be able to take NCLEX in summer. My question is, is internship/externship critical in getting a job? Since I wouldn't have time to do that before taking my NCLEX and also I don't know if I'll have time available with my baby born in spring, I don't know if my resume would look so bad without such experience. Shall I try hard to do externship before applying for a job? Another question is, are the job interviews really hard? Will you be at disadvantage if your talking skill is not good? English is my second language and also I'm not good at answering quesions instantly. Interviews like behavior interviews really make me worried.
