  1. I really appreciate all your input. Currently I am not working. After working 2 years with Alzheimers I was laid off due to cut backs. Now looking for a job is tougher than when I had just graduated. Everyone wants RN's and the few LVN positions available are in deep competition with all the others that have been laid off. I am moving to NY next July and would love to have come close to getting my RN by then.
  2. Do you think that you will have the same experience after graduating from excelsior as you would from traditional or do you think not going to traditional school hinders clinical abilities when first starting to work?
  3. I am in need of some good advice and information. I am currently an LVN in CA but am moving to NY during the coming summer. I have tried numerous times to attend a Lvn-Rn bridge program here but have had no luck getting in as wait lists are long. I have looked into many different schools traditional and distance learning and have found that maybe Excelsior would be a good choice. Okay so here come the questions. One approx how long does it take to finish? How are clinicals performed? What does the CPNE entail? Does it cost an enormous amount? I went on to their website but found it hard to follow at times. All information would be greatly appreciated.
  4. You guys are so very helpful and it is nice to know that there are people out there willing to give advice and help when needed. I will take all your advice and hope that I have found my perfect job soon. Will keep you all updated!

Thanks for your help. Are you with an agency? Is it difficult to get in with an agency?
  6. Thank You all so much for your info. I do remember it being very different and it does worry me that I would not be able to handle it. At my last job I was charge nurse for 6 cnas and had a load of 48 patients as it was LTC. It was very hectic and I did not feel I was able to give my full attention to the patients that they deserved. But going from that to a hospital is very nerve racking and I just need to know if I could handle it. I would love to try home health but I am not sure if I should go with an agency for that or not. Do agencies pay well? What are some good agencies to look into (i'm in so cal).
  7. Hi all, I have a few questions. I have previously posted questions about HH but now have some about agency work. I have worked in LTC for close to 2 years and need a change. I have looked into HH and have sent some resumes out with no response. Now I have a friend who is a CNA starting at an agency who also employs LVN's. My question is, how hard is it to transition from LTC to acute care? Would I be in the weeds most of the time? What are the things that I should know and things that would benificial to me? I know this may be a difficult task to undertake but I really would like the opportunity to expand my knowledge but seriously have a fear of failing. Plz help!!!
  8. I have just sent my resume to an agency and am hoping to start working for them. I too though, have not worked in the hospital only LTC. I am an LVN who is very nervous about taking on this task but desperately want the experience. CaliLVN3583, how has it been for you? Did you find you picked it up easy? Any information would be soo helpful as like I said I am extremely nervous. Thanks in advance.

I have been an LVN for 2 years now and worked in the LTC setting. Looking to see if HH is better (or better different) and will be able to get me to days as I have worked nights this entire time.

Hi all. I am an LVN in so cal looking to get into the home health area but have no idea where to start. Are most home health jobs visits or one on one? Does HH pay decently? Are there certain agencies to go through? Any and all advice on HH would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  11. Thank you for all the information. One thing though, as I am fairly new to posting threads and such, how do i find the forums?
  12. I have a few questions about the role and duties of an LVN in home health as I am new to this area. I am looking into moving into this area after working LTC for a year and a half. Some of the things I am wondering are is there certain agencies to look for? Is it hard to get into? Does it pay well (i am in so cal). Would I be doing multiple visits or is it one on one care? I have heard of Maxim and they are always advertising job opening but is it a bad place to work? I know this is allot of questions but I would really appreciate some help.
  13. Thanks for all the good info. I will be looking into the Excelsior program. For those that have taken it, was it difficult to learn online? I look forward to being up in beautiful Oregon and finding a new Job.
  14. Hi, I am planning on moving to Oregon this summer. Currently I am an LVN (or LPN there) but would like to obtain my RN. I looking for any information on any schools that offer the LPN to RN bridge program. This will help me decide the exact location I want to move to. Also are there many jobs for LPN's in Oregon? Pay Rate? Thanks for any and all information you can provide.
