  1. I need to take this soon. I was wondering if any of you who have the study guide and don't need it anymore would be selling it? Let me know how much you'd be asking for it. Thanks for the help!
  2. Does anyone know what admissions is like at SDSU? I know it's impacted like everywhere else but I was reading on their website that admissions is point based. So the more points you have the better. I attended a university in Texas as a biology major. I moved here and am currently attending a community college to do nursing pre-requisites. I've got a good academic record with making A's in all my courses (except for Calculus II which I took over the summer and made a B). I'm hoping to make straight A's in the courses I'm taking now as well. I know I can do well in school and get the points for their point system but I'm just curious as to if they give favor to students that live around the san diego area. This counselor said that she heard SDSU gives favor to those that took high school or took their prereqs in the san diego area. Is this true? Can anyone from SDSU nursing give information regarding this? Also, if I'm unable to get into anatomy and physiology II this summer at the community college I'm going to, I was intending on possibly going to the university in texas to take that requirement but still come back for the fall semester here. How does SDSU view out of state courses? I know a lot of California schools don't allow you to get into the nursing program if you're not from California. Which I've moved here but was thinking of taking summer classes in Texas if it's not available here. Do I have to finish all my prereqs before applying to increase chances? Will having organic left to do for the fall 2007 semester give me a great disadvantage in apply for the spring 2007 sem? How do they treat AP scores? I made 4s on English Comp and English lit AP exams so I'm hoping to use it for the prereq. Finally, once in the program is it possible to condense it into 2 years. I'll probably have all the general education before starting the nursing program (which hopefully will be in spring 2007) as well as the physiology requirement. I'm also looking into taking the pathophysiology (or was it pharmacology ... one of those) at the school in Texas (they offer it for people that are still pre-nursing because they work on a different system but same course) and possibly psychology requirements as well. All that will leave me with about 4-5 semesters worth of nursing courses. Do I have to spread that out into 6 semesters or can i compact it if I get admitted? thanks in advance for the help!
  3. thanks! How long does it take or what is the process of becoming a cna? I tried to look it up and got all confused. Do you know if classes can be taken on the weekends? I'm also taking part in a clinical care extender program where students get trained to help out in the hospital/patient care. There's definitely patient interaction but it's more volunteer because there's no pay. Does that work too?
  4. Hi. I'm a southern california student and I recently decided to do pre-nursing after completing 1 year of biology track courses at a Texas school. I moved to california because my family relocated here. I was originally enrolled at UCR but when I realized I wanted to do nursing had to withdraw because they don't have pre-nursing courses..or well their courses aren't geared towards that. I'm enrolled at MSJC and will be taking a late start sociology class. I am hoping that I can finish the pre-reqs in time to apply to a Spring 2008 nursing class. If there are any california nursing students that could possibly tell me what kind of qualifications they had to get into a BSN school, I would greatly appreciate it. I know all the schools are pretty much "impacted" and have looked into their sites. They have point systems and I also talked to a counselor at msjc but I'd still really like to get your experiences. For example, most of these schools seem to include in their criteria or point system students that are bilingual (likely to be spanish). I don't know how I could possibly fit 2 semesters of spanish prior to applying but if necessary i will try. Also I noticed that some include health-care experience. My mom wanted me to look up EKG classes so I can do some kind of EKG tech/help and get experience. I'm looking into CSU LB, CSU SB, CSU SM, and SDS. Anyway any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  5. I'm not sure if you're still looking for a response but... my mom and aunts work for kaiser in socal. They have really good benefits for your family. I don't know the difficulty of getting hired. I do know that when my mom first moved here from texas she started work at a different hospital because either she wasn't hired at kaiser or she was still waiting for a response for them. But not too long after..maybe a couple of months..she was accepted. I think it also depends on your experience and what department you want to get into. My mom originally wanted to get into the dialysis department because she's had years of experience in that but there wasn't too much of a need at the time so she was accepted into medsurg since she's had experience in that as well. Anyway, good luck with applying! From my mom's and aunts experience the feedback is very positive about working for Kaiser.
  6. hi. i'm actually a california student. I just transferred here because of my family relocating. I also just recently decided to do pre-nursing after 1 year of doing bs bio track. I have looked into different california nursing programs and all of them basically say it's "impacted". I spoke to someone at CSU Long Beach and she said they don't take out of state students. I'm not sure how that works since you came from california originally. I would go onto their websites and check out their requirements. Each school can be a little different and they also have some points systems than might help you to see what all they need. Other than that I would say maybe contact the school by phone or email to ask questions. Hope that helps! Good luck!
