Texas Wesleyan University
Thank you for your time and the information Spideyunit. I have applied and I do have a decent GRE, good GPA, CCRN, PALS, ACLS instructor, dedication and drive for a CRNA career, shadow experiences with two CRNA's and almost 2 years in Cardiovascular Critical Care and open heart recovery. I was wondering when you recieved an invite for the interview? JD

Texas Wesleyan University
Spideyunit, I would love to hear about your experiences. I recently talked to a CRNA from the St. E's CRNA program and she had nothing but good things to say about the program. How was the application and interview process? How was Texas? What is the learning environment like? What facility are you at? Thanks, JD

Pre-anesthesia Chemistry
CCRN-CMC-CSC Did you feel like Barry's course had enough chemistry in it for a CRNA program? Or was it just an enlightening course? Did it cover gas laws? I am considering taking that course versus a general chemistry course at the local university? I just want to get the best information for the time and effort with the biggest benefit for a CRNA program. Thanks, JD

Texas Wesleyan University
I know there is a phase I and phase II. Is phase I mostly classroom? Where is the classroom located? Do you feel like you have enough quality clinical hours? How many applicants did they accept for your primary clinical site? On the application they have you rank hospitals for clinical preferences, how did that work out for you? Did you get your first pick and how did you know which one to rank #1? What kind of Chemistry class did you take prior to the program? Thanks, JD

Pre-anesthesia Chemistry
Does anyone have suggestions for a pre-anesthesia chemistry class? I am applying this fall to CRNA programs. I am wanting to register for a spring chemistry class. Is a local univesity's undergraduate chemistry class good enough? Does anyone reccomend or have any information regarding Barry University's Transition to Nurse Anestesiology (ANE 695)? Thanks, JD

Shadowing a CRNA...?
What kind of questions are appropriate during the shadowing process? Legal stuff? What it takes to get in to school? What it takes to stay in school? Pathophisiology type of questions? What to expect in the interview? CRNA, MD, or AA type of questions? Things we should be studying to prepare for the interview/program? What qualities should we look for in a CRNA program? or should the questions be patient care driven and stay in the moment? Any pointers or suggestions? JD

Pins and Needles My grades are good, but I am worried about my clinical experience of only 2 years. UC is the only school I am going to apply to, because I can not re-locate. However, I did hear that texas wesleyan has a program in Louisville and Cincinnati, but I don't know to much about their program. Are you taking any graduate core classes to get them out of the way? Jdiekhoff

**Aspiring CRNAs....Did YOU like working in the ICU?**
I love the CVICU and taking care of the fresh open heart patients. However, in saying that the nurses I am surrounded by are great and I could not ask for any better mentors and friends than my co-workers. My manager is also wonderful at supporting her staff. My favorite position is in the OR, I worked in the OR prior to my ICU experience. I did a little bit of everything scrub, circulated and recovered. I just think you need to find a place you can surround yourself with the right mentors.

Mammothsnw I did send course descriptions to him and he returned my email saying that four courses would be transferable. I did keep all of that information. However, will that really help me in the future? Pins and needles I don't know about you but it has been a long time coming to apply to CRNA school. I am so excited! Where are you from? Jdiekhoff

Mammothsnw that worries me, I am from IN and I am currently taking graduate classes at U of I that he said would transfer to UC. I hope I don't have to waste time and money to retake these classes.

Thanks for all of the great information. I have been working toward this goal for about four years now, it is hard to believe that I am ready to apply this fall! LJMB, Are you located in the tri-state area? I am about an hour from Cincinnati. I would hope UC would let us touch up on our chemistry between acceptance and starting school. Currently, I am in the process of applying for an Ohio nursing license. Beedog, Thanks for the info. I have had the pleasure of recieving the graduate counselors famous email page that doesn't really answer your questions and it is really frustrating. However, I have found it to be more effective if I email first and then call him on the phone. He actually has a pretty good sense of humor once he found out I wasn't going away. Do you think 2 references from RN's in my current position (CVU) and maybe one from my OR experience or should it be a recent graduate professor? Do you think an RN from 2 years ago in the OR would be a good reference or not? Should the references be from CCRN, MSN, a manager, or just a BSN that knows me well? I guess it depends on what UC is looking for in the references if it is considered a good reference? Any thoughts?? Thanks

Is their anyone going to UC this fall? I was wondering how the application and interview process went for you? I am going to apply this fall. I am married and have three children. So I don't have an option of applying to other schools and moving. (by the way did I say my husband is a self-employeed grain farmer, not much for re-locating) Another catch is that my high school girl-friend is going to apply also (her situation is the same, 3 kids and a farmer). Any tips on getting in together. I would hate to be split up but I know that is a chance we have to take. Some background for me is OB X 3yr., OR X 3yr.(scrub, circulate, recovery), CVU X 2yr. GRE 1100 3.8 GPA Graduate core classes currently CCRN within the next 90 days PALS, ACLS Background for my friend ICU x 12yr., OB x 2yr. GRE 1200 CCRN, PALS, ACLS Undergraduate GPA 2.8 Graduate classes GPA 3.8
