  1. I feel the same way. For one reason or another I have put off nursing school for the last 3 years. The reasons were valid ones, but still. I am just ready to start and to finish. I am so excited and I get more excited the closer it gets to my start date! Good Luck!
  2. I am nervous as well. Orientation isn't until July 19th, but the more I think about it the more nervous I get! I know I'll do fine (at least I'm going to do my best!) but I am kinda freaking out about the workload. Hopefully once it starts I'll just get into the flow and everything will be fine. But even for as nervous as I am, I get more and more excited every day.
  3. I turned my letter in about 3:15 this afternoon. lol I live in Sherman, so it's not that far and I didn't want to wait til Monday to turn it in. I guess that's why she didn't look too surprised to see me. Y'all had already been there! lol
  4. :w00t: Congrats everyone!!!
  5. Yes. It needs to be AHA certified BLS for Healthcare providers.
  6. Yeah, it gets crazy around this time of year. Everyone is scrambling to get one before school starts. I am sure they will add a couple more dates, they did last year. I just want to do it and get it done so it's on less thing on my list. I still have to get my 2nd Hep A shot as well as a TB test. Although I was told that since the TB tests are only good for a year, those should be done as close to the beginning of school as possible so you're not in the middle of tests or clinicals and needing to have another one done.
  7. If you take them at Grayson normally they are on Fridays. But I just looked and all the dates they have listed are full or the day of our orientation. Can't be in two places at once, right? From what I learned last year at orientation they don't care where you get your CPR card as long as it's American Heart Association Certified. I just whet to heart.org and searched for CPR classes and I reserved a spot in one that is on July 21st from 10-1 which is on a Saturday so my husband can watch my 3 year old. My older two kids are spending the summer at their dads so I don't have a problem finding someone to watch them. The only thing is that the class is in Plano, but I would rather make the drive and get the card than sit around and worry if there's going to be another class available at Grayson. I also have childcare all figured out for when school starts, but like you, up until then I have to figure stuff out. It's tough sometimes. ETA: If you want to look up a class, the link is http://www.americanheart.org/eccclassconnector. Hope that helps!
  8. i'm not sure yet. I was thinking morning, but that's only if one of my friends can keep my 3 year old. If not it will be the evening so my husband can watch him and at least get a half day in at work as well.
  9. I am too! What time are you going to do your orientation?
  10. Congrats to you!! I just checked my mail and I got in too!! Woo Hoo!! *Doing a happy dance*
  11. It's a possibility. I think it has to do with low test scores. I'm assuming that if they moved the deadline they were doing their best to make sure that the class size is the same as other years, but i don't know if it actually will be. If you look on your score report it shows what the average test score is for people who applied to the program. The last time I looked it was 56%. If that was the average score it's no wonder they extended the deadline since they only accept 60% and above. I have no idea if that's actually the reason though. I'm just guessing.
  12. I understand that. I can't help but think that for those that get accepted this year it's going to be crazy busy trying to get everything in time to start school. It is what it is though, and I guess if we got accepted we'll just have to deal. I just wish my letter would come stating either way. I'm tired of waiting!
  13. hahaha no, I check it daily as well. And last year they gave out a book list at orientation, so that's probably when it will happen this time.
  14. Well, it took my scores a full week to come back when I took it in May. I am hoping that they start mailing letters this week. I don't have financial aid so I'm paying out of pocket and I need to know how much it's gonna cost me so I can set up my payment plan. Them extending the deadline really put a wrench in that for me.
  15. Sorry I was off. They start at 9 a.m. I hope not either. I saw it on campus connect under course availability.
  16. Interesting point. IDK that's just what I looked up on the website and saw. Maybe I was off on the dates or something, because you are right that doesn't make sense. Scores and everything would have had to be in by the deadline no matter what. Well here's hoping that letters come next week! :yeah:But I'm not going to get my hopes up too high just in case. lol
  17. I hope so too, but I doubt it. They had TEAS testing at the college Tuesday and Wednesday and those scores will take at least a week to get back, so it's probably going to be closer to the 15th before we start finding out anything. Hopefully they get them out sooner, but I'm not really going to expect anything until around then sometime.
  18. No, I didn't retake the test. I didn't even think about it. LOL I am happy with my score. I have however used the extra time to worry that I've forgotten to submit something in my file! I keep telling myself that I have double and triple checked and everything is there that has to be there to get accepted. So now I am just trying to be calm and not be too much of a mailbox stalker the next couple of weeks! Good luck!
  19. I know. I was so disappointed when I got that email. I was like what? whyyyyy? *insert whiny voice here* I can't really tell from the class schedule, but last year they said to plan to be at the college from about 8-8:30 til about 4 on lecture days. The class schedule this year says the classes start at 9:30 so I have no idea on that one. I figure they will clarify at orientation. I am just ready to see a letter in the mail. I have been planning this for almost as long as you have. I sent my application in January. After not being able to go last year, I was not even sure that I was going to take the TEAS to try again. Now I just wish that I knew one way or the other if I need to make different plans for the Fall.
  20. Um, IDK about the class schedule. I looked on Campus Connect under course availability and it looks like the lecture classes will be M-W but there are no days or times listed for clinicals. I can only assume they will be on Thursdays & Fridays the first semester. They told us in orientation last year that clinicals wouldn't start til October. If I remember correctly the times for last year were either 6-2or3ish and/or 10-8ish. The clinical sites they had last year were in Sherman, Denison, and Durant. They said they would try their best to put people in clinical sites that were close to home, but there weren't any guarantees. I don't think they said anything about choosing the clinical time, but I've slept since then. I have no idea if this will be the same as last year, but it might give you a rough idea. I know that it doesn't help make concrete plans, but I guess it's a start.
  21. That's what my husband thinks too. I am pretty bummed too, but I'm also kinda upset because orientation is usually mid-July so that will be pushed back as well which means that everything is being done last minute, which drives me crazy! ITA about sending out the letters to the people that got all their stuff in on time. It sucks that we have to wait because other people can't get their stuff together. OK, I'm off my rant now. Hopefully it won't take long to get the letters, I would assume if they had to extend the deadline then they have already weeded out those that have turned in all their stuff and put them in a pile so after Thursday comes they just have to sort through the rest of the applications and fill out the class and send letters. Theoretically that shouldn't take too long, right?
  22. Definitely. I an still wondering why they extended the deadline in the first place. I don't think they've ever done that before.
  23. I *think* the Grayson Health Department does them. I would call and ask just to be sure. If they do I have no idea how much they cost. I have insurance through my husband's work so I just go to my doctor for one. If the health department doesn't do them, they might be able to tell you who can. Sorry I couldn't be more help on that one.
  24. I guess it does a little bit. But, just because I got accepted last year doesn't necessarily mean I will this year. My TEAS score is only off a point from what I got accepted with last year, so I'm pretty sure I'll do OK, but you never know. I know that GCC does CPR cards through the continuing education department. I think they are around $60 and are from 8-5 on a certain day. I know that there are other cheaper places to get one, but it has to be AHA certification and some of them aren't. I think the best bet to make sure you get the right CPR cert is to go through the college.
  25. It was June 10th also. As far as I know, it has been the same for the past several years.
