Computer Prgrams for the Office
Does anyone know the name of any good computer programs for an FNP office. the office where I've been hired is still on paper. They're interested in a computer program. We had one at my student site that was system specific for charting as well as included a P.E frame. It also included prescriptions and billing. Thanks for any help

Has anyone got accepted to CRNA school with a GPA less than 3.0?????
My undergraduate GPA was low - The University allowed me to take some of the Masters Level Nurse Practitioner classes for credit (non degree status) - I did nothing else but study and write papers outside of work - I got an A in pharmacology and a B in statistics - I worte an honest letter about why I wanted to become a FNP - I got accepted - really worked my butt off - got a 3.74 average and am now an employed FNP. P.S. It took 2 tries (application processes) before I was accepted. Don't give up!!!!

How to tell a drug rep to shut up?
We had a lot of drug reps and dinners at my clinical site. They would have given these MD's anything to write more scripts for their brand. They were able to keep track which doc had written the most prescriptions for them and they would suck up or push the ones that hadn't written as many. I think the thing that got me the most is the misinformation they would disseminate. The avandia and treating at blood sugars of 100 was horrible. The web site www.nofreelunch.org has some good info regarding drug reps and a movie I got at a website www.moneytalksthemovie.com is excellent.

Dermatology book
I'm a picture person and the book I found the best was "Skin Diseases Diagnosis and Treatment by Thomas P. Habif - 2005 - Elsevier Mosby ISBN 10-0-323-02753-9. The pictures look very much like the actual diseases - the lab, dx, prognosis section is short and too the point.

Employment
Hi I Graduated from a FNP program in May. Passed my boards in June and am looking for employment in Maryland. I've used the internet career sites and sent resumes to Doctors in the area. Does anyone have any more advice or ideas. Thanks I got a job!!!!!! Finally took the yellow pages and sent a cover letter and my resume to nearby offices - the office that hired me knew someone on the resume list who gave me a good reference. Thanks

Hospital Admitting Privelidges
Does anyone have any info. regarding FNP and hospital admitting or hospital privelidges in general. There seems to be a big disconnect (lack of continuity of care) at this point. Is it due to finances (more beneficial to have the NP at the office seeing pt.'s - usually only a few pt.'s in the hospital) or other reasons (need for acute care skills) or MD fear of the NP. I read in some initial threads in '04 that there is a credentialing fee at most hospitals after which you have privelidges. Any articles or any help!!!!! Thanks

Byetta
Thanks for the info. regarding yur MIL and co-worker. It sound like they're using Byetta as a first line drug which I had never thought of doing. As first line it would decrease the weight earlier and prevent the complications of DM. Metabolic syndrome usually includes HTN, High triglycerides, low HDL, Obesity and Hyperglycemia. Maybe your MIL was newly diagnosed. Thank you for the Byetta site (it was very informative). Also, I found websites for a great deal of free government diabetic educational material at the end of the Byetta site.
