I am a FNP Student graduating in December. My school required us to find our own preceptors as well. It was a huge challenge. Right now I am scrambling to finish up my rotations so that I can graduate in December. I have yet to find a preceptor for Long Term Care or Rural Health. I would hunt down preceptors in the beginning of the program and be in good terms so you'll have them lined up for your major clinical courses in the end. Good Luck!!!

I am in desperate need of a preceptor to fulfill 40 hours of clinicals in a Rural Health Care setting preferably in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas. It has to be a city/town with less than 35,000 population. Please let me know if there is someone that may be able to precept me. I am graduating in December and have to finish my rotations by the end of November.

I am an Agency Nurse who has only worked ER, and I have signed up to work some Med-Surg to get some extra hours. I have no experience in Med-Surg. How different is it? Would I be able to handle it? Please let me know what you guys think.

How do you like working as an Agency Nurse in the ER?

I started in the ER as a new grad a year and a half ago, and I absolutely love it. There are a difference of opinions...some nurses say...u must have experience before entering a critical care setting...and other say...u learn as you go. From my experience, as a new grad, you are willing to learn anything and everything. You are motivated. I didn't have a very long orientation at all because we were sooo short on nurses. However, I am a fast learner so I learned as I went. I still ask questions when I don't know something. You don't experience every scenario in your first few months of orientation. That's what's great about the ER....new scenarios all the time. However, you must have a strong orientation to get a base!!! I hope this helps. I am now working as an Agency Nurse at different ER's, and I don't think I like it very much. I was given 3 patients after 2 hrs. of mini-orientation(going over basic charting) and was cancelled 2 out of the 3 days I signed up. I hope it gets better. If anyone has an input on this, pls let me now.
