Simple things new nurses or experiece nurses are not doing?
As a new grad nurse who hasn't yet started a job, I find it really interesting to read all these posts. I feel like by reading what everyone writes, maybe there will be a lesser chance of making mistakes when I start. Keep 'em coming!!

Mandatory 4th 12 hr shift every 3-4 weeks?
I was just wondering if any hospitals in the NY area require RNs to work a 4th 12 hour shift every 3-4 weeks to make 40 hrs?

Getting ORganized?
I'm just getting ready to start my first semester of actual nursing courses!! Last semester, with all the pre reqs, I found one of those expandable filing folders with about 7-12 pockets to be helpful. For every class you have, make a little label. Then in class, whenever you get handouts etc., stick them in the appropriate folder right away. You'll always know where all your papers are!

Different editions of nursing textbooks
Thank you all so much for all of the input! I think I'm going to hold off on purchasing the text until school starts, see what my teacher thinks. If she insists on the 6th ed., I'll go right onto half.com!!

Different editions of nursing textbooks
I'm sure that this question was addressed in the past but I was unable to find the thread! I was wondering your thoughts on having different editions of nursing textbooks. With one of my expensive textbooks I have the 5th edition, while the booklist lists the 6th. Is there a great difference from one edition to the next? Will it be a struggle to find reading assignments? In case anyone knows firsthand, it's the fundamentals of nursing text. Thanks!!

considering EMT school before nursing school
Although it might be challenging to do EMT training while studying nursing, think about the exposure you will get! It will give you a lot of experience that will be useful in nursing school!

Rolling Backpack vs. Duffle
i would definitely suggest the rolling bookbag!! between books, lunch, and any other supplies you might be carrying, a regular book bag might not cut it
