I have to say one unbiased thing, I like both PC and Mac. Once in awhile i find myself on my PC desktop doing things i wouldn't be able to do on my Mac laptop such as using Autocad, or using that nvidia 6600 video card for games because my $1100 mac laptop doesn't have it's own video card, but for everything else i'd use my Mac. I think that if someone were to buy a laptop then an apple would be superior. But as far as desktops go, choosing a PC would be wise because they're cheaper than Mac desktops and highly customizable. But i have to say this too. If you took a person who had never used a computer in he/shes life, and you let them use a PC for an hour then a Mac, and then they had to choose between the two, then they would choose the Mac just because it's easier to use.

Okay curiousme. Your wrong on most of what you've said. I'm an advanced computer user and i doubt most people know what i know about how to use a windows based computer, sure i don't know much about computer programming or anything technical like that but as far as using the operating system as a consumer goes, i'm strong in that field. 1 - i'll admit, macs do freeze one or twice a month. As for virus protection, everybody who has one of those things installed on their computer should know how that it makes the system slower and it makes it more annoying with all those pops up from the program. The best way to remove those is to disable the program, but then that makes the virus protection useless. Unless you know how to avoid viruses like i do you'll need virus protection. With my mac i never had to use my geeky computer knowledge. I have a windows desktop that i built and since i bought my mac that desktop has seen rare usage by me. Most of my usage is to scan and fix the thing for problems that my family brought on to it. 2 - Yep, 6 months. It took me 3 months to get familiar with it (could've took a few hours if i devoted that time to learning to use it). That comment was based on my deep and diverse experience with windows, someone who does not know much about computers won't understand this. 3 - I wasn't speaking literally, just saying that more people move from ms to mac and not the other way around. 4 - Who cares about ibm. Ibm's aren't made for regular people like us, their made for business people who travel and such. My argument is mainly about the Mac operating system vs. the windows system. IBMs suck because they use windows. 5 - just hating on microsoft;) 6 - most problems people face on their computers whether mac or windows will be software based. You call microsoft for that, right? Now in the case of a hardware problem, apple rules in supporting their customers in that field. For that plug thing, yeah it isn't a technological revolution. Not everyone achieves being as careful as they intend on being with their computer. It isn't what caught my eye when trying to decide between a ms machine or apple, as a matter of fact it didn't know it had that. There are lots of things i didn't know an apple had but when i took it home and played with it, i was overwhelmed by it and very pleased. I have zero regrets on my decision. 7 - i didn't pay much attention to the commercials until i bought one. But it is a clever ad campaign. Yes, macs are costly and thats why we often see them among people who have the money to afford one.

CurleySue. What do you want out of a laptop? DO want it to be flawless; no viruses, spyware, or any software problems that result in the thing freezing? Or do you want something that requires you to know lots about computers like a microsoft. Know this, microsoft makes their system thinking that everyone is going to take a class just to figure out how to properly use the system. Now, i own an apple macbook and am loving it so much that i'll never ever ever buy another microsoft running cpu again simply because i've not had any problems with it, it's works just like it did 6 months ago. Make the right choice and go with an apple. BTW, do you realize the simple fact that people go from microsoft to mac but absolutely nobody moves from mac to microsoft? Makes you think huh. Now you might go to your local best buy or whatever and tryout an apple and say "whats so good about this", i don't blame you because you won't see why an apple is better than a pc unless you use one for a week doing all the typical things it is you do on a computer. Trust me on this one, get an apple. People who say that you should get a windows computer are simply people who haven't tried an apple. Things to consider for your decision. 1 - microsoft sucks simply because its a cheap rip off of what apple does with their system, on the new vista OS you'll find plenty of things that weren't on past pc's. Bill gates' company copys what Steve Jobs company does. 2 - the ipod, microsoft made a wannabe ipod-the zune, which in fact its premiere was silenced by apples premiere of the iphone. 3 - apple is consumer friendly, excellent customer support unlike ms. They make their software and hardware with people in mind. Take that example aviator411 made about the power plug, i can't start to tell you how many times thats come in use for me. Just buy a macbook, you'll never look back saying "did i make the right decision". Just go to youtube and watch those ms vs. mac commercials, their hilarious and true.

My second semester has already started and i'm kind of worried about my grades in the first semester. I had chem 1, english 1a, and intro to bio. I got a B in english and bio but i got a C!!!! in chem, how big of a deal is this for me in terms of getting into nursing school? This semester i have organic/biochemistry, nutrition, sociology, and speech. I'm totally focused from now on and got a big wake up call from my first semester.

Thanks for the quick responses everybody. I've got a much better idea now. It looks like theres more to nursing than i thought, which i think is great btw.

I need help for my public speaking class. We have an assignment where we have to find out how public speaking plays a role in the career we look to pursue. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me on this.

My english course is actually 4 units, i looked around and most universities around here in california have it 3 units. And yes, all my courses are transferable for university credit, rock history is just general ed otherwise i'd never take it. I want to transfer in two years so i don't know if i can have less than 15 units a semester, i need to talk to a counseler about that. The remaining science courses i'll have are chemB, micro, a&p1, a&p2. I thought the same thing too that i should take one science at a time but to do that i'll have to take a&p over the summer.

Its been 2 months since classes started and things have been going okay. Not being modest but, i've been told by some that because i was going into Junior college after HS that i should take no more than 12 units or 3 classes, i ignored those people cause i felf confident and i registered for 15 units, intro bio, intro chem, english 1a, rock history(hate this class, like classic rock but not literally 40's-60's classic). Anyways, the transition of coming from HS with a 2.4 gpa into college all motivated has been a rather noticeable one. In HS, i never or rarely studied for tests and never completed a whole book. Now in college i'm studying like never before, not complaining BTW, am reading more pages in a week in college than in a year in HS, Literally! With that being said, we've had three tests already in chemisty, got an A- on the first which made me happy, got a disturbing wake up call by a 69% d+ on the 2nd test, had the third yesterday, expecting a high B or low A. Now in bio, i came in the first test all confident like i was gonna get an A, broke my heart when the scantron said 78%. Now i got another coming next week. Now one fact i don't like is that in those first few tests i've taken, i should've gotten a beter grade, A- should've really been an A+, that D+ an A (this one sucks. Teacher stresses all week that she's gonna give us one type of particular problem .redox btw. for the exam, exam day comes and whats with all these other types of problems i didn't care to study for), that 78 in bio should've been a B+. I felt the grades didn't reflect my knowledge on the material, almost all the problems i get wrong are the ones i misread, i forget the units or write the wrong ones, you know what i mean, those stupid mistakes. I hate that. My point is, what do you guys think about my situation? Is it that "1st sem in college" thing that's giving me a hard time? Is it the new system? Will i be fine? Does this kind of thing happen to everybody? I'm just worried because what if i don't do good in my prereqs and don't get accepted into a bsn program, and not get to fulfill my ultimate dream and goal of becoming a CRNA, or a NP :)

This semester i'm taking biology 130 and chem 106A at a community college, both are introductory classes. For next semester i'm deciding whether or not to take micro(5 units) and chem 106b(4 units) together, i'll be using the same book for this chem class that i am using now. I hear some pretty bad things about how hard microbiology is. Do you guys think its a good idea to take micro with another science class that has a lab? Heres the classes i plan on taking next semester. Chem 106b 4 units Microbiology 5 units SPCH 101 3 units

Is it like that throughout the whole program or does it get easier at times.

Whats a typical nursing school day like versus a day in crna school.

Well, how do they differ? Is crna school tougher and if so then how? Is it more time consuming or is the material harder or what? I'm doing my prereqs right now for a bsn, yeah crna school is far from now but i'm just curious.

I don't think the navy is as risky as the other branches since your always on a state of the art ship. One thing that really attracts me to the navy is the adventure, it seems like a once in a lifetime thing, something that would be cool to talk about with people, i don't mind being away from family for months or even a year.

I'm new to these boards btw. Been looking around for a few days and i'm loving it here, lots of great info. Anyways, i'm 18 and will be starting my prereqs to get into a bsn program, thats my goal right now, but once i hopefully get my bsn, i want to become a crna. Now i discovered that you can become one through the navy, now how does that work. Now obviously the first step is to join the navy, what then? Now if i join as a rn with a bsn will i be able to go directly into one of their crna programs or what? Whats the process? I just need a basic idea of how it works.
