So here is where I stand. I am currently working in an SICU and finishing my RN-BSN right now. I should finish the BSN program in the next year. I have PALS, TNCC, and CCRN. I will also take the GRE the next year. What I am wondering is what else can I do to make myself competitive. My gpa is 3.5-3.6. My science gpa is 4.0. I just don't know if there are any other certifications that might be good to get. Anyways, any suggestions would be great.

Thanks guys, I figured that you I could get the invasive monitoring but I wanted to hear it from some nurses/CRNAs that knew. I just didn't want to start looking at the wrong area that would not give me my needed experience.

I was wondering if anyone has gotten their critical care experience in the CVICU area for CRNA school. I know that it is ICU, but do you get as much invasive monitoring as you would in a Trauma ICU or SICU. The program I am looking at deals with all heart problems, surgeries, and transplants. Please tell what you think.

I will be graduating nursing school soon and I am looking for a nursing job to get my experience for CRNA. I am looking in Nashville, especially Vandy. I was wondering if I should just concentrate on a job in the SICU area or if it would be ok to look for a job in the Trauma unit. If anyone knows if I would get the invasive monitoring in a trauma unit or if I should stick to the ICUs it would help. Vandy is a big hospital and they have a huge Trauma center. The CRNA program that I like is in MTSA in Nashville. They say that they prefer ICU experience but will take people from emergency if they have the monitoring. If anyone has any suggestions or has been in this situation, Please help!!

Thanks for the help. I am so glad I asked the question because I had not even thought about the consequenses of mentioning CRNA school. I am looking at applying for an ICU job in the Nashville area, specifically at Vanderbilt. I know it's going to be a challenge to get an ICU job as a new grad, but not impossible.

I am about to graduated nursing school and I am looking at trying to get an ICU job so I can work my way up to the CRNA goal. I was wondering if it matters what type of ICU job to get, such as MICU, SICU, CVICU. I was also wondering if when interviewing for the ICU job, if it is a good thing or a bad thing to mention my plans to further my education in the CRNA field. I can see where some people might see it as me being a hard worker, and others see it as bad since I might not be at the job but for a couple of years. If anyone could tell me if they have had this experience and what to do it would help out a lot.
