  1. Hi, I have a friend who will be starting the second semester of a 4 semester ADN program with me in January. She just told me that she is pregnant and is due in June. She says she plans to take a semester off from school when the baby is born, but doesn't know if she can make it through the second semester being pregnant. Has anyone been in this situation ? Since I have never been in this situation, I am not sure what to say to her. I know that there are many nurses who work throughout their pregnancies, but would school be different? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  2. I began nursing school this fall after being a teacher for almost 10 years, so I guess I have experience on the other side of the coin. While I liked being a teacher for a while, it was a lot of work. Sure, the hours are good and you get time off, but you spend a lot of time outside of work doing lesson plans, grading papers, etc. I am so glad that I made a change and should have done it long ago. Nursing school is tough and time consuming and you get a lot of experience in different areas, so you may find you will be interested in other areas. Unfortunately, most nursing programs give you general clinical experiences, so you probably won't get much experience with pediatric oncology. Like SCRN1 said, there are so many avenues to go in nursing. Go with your instincts and you will make the right choice. Just don't go into a profession because of the hours or the time off because you may find that you are not happy.
  3. I applied to get into the program for this Fall. I was originally on the wait list when the letters went out in early March, but got a call at the beginning of May offering me a spot in the program (there were actually 4 spots to my surprise and I had a choice of day or evening section). I scored an 80th percentile on the NLN. Have faith in yourself and remember that everyone who is trying to get into the program has the same thoughts and fears as you. It is great to talk to others in your classes who are in the same boat as you. Good Luck!!!
