HR 5688 Act
Hi Everyone, I am still just a BSN student with my heart set on a future as a CRNA. I was handed a newsletter today that had a very brief and undetailed article about HR5688 - The Healthcare Truth and Transparency Act. In the article the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists was mentioned as a strong opposition group and I am just wondering if some of you can help me understand what this is about and how it could - if it actually has potential to go anywhere - have impact on the field. Thanks for your comments!

Malpractice insurance...
More questions all... I am so in love with this career path, and someone had to try and poop on my dreams last night.... I'm gonna be in WAY deep in loans when this is over - roughly 200k. That's a private undergrad BSN plus living expenses and childcare for a toddler under 2 (the right place costs the wrong money I tell ya!) and my CRNA degree with all living expenses. Anywho, someone said to me last night that I had better be careful about all this because in the end I am going to be upside down with my malpractice insurance like MD Anesthesiologists or OBGYN's. I have been looking at lots and lots of jobs for CRNA's and as far as I have been able to tell, this is a decent benefit provided by lots of private firms; also from other sites I have read this is not an issue for CRNA's like it is for some MD's. Someone PLEASE tell me this person is just talking out their rear-end and that this is not an unreasonable dream for me as mom with a supportive fiancee who is going to be a doc himself. How does CRNA malpractice insurance work - you have all been so great, thanks again for your replies...

Keep it to myself? / UMDNJ?
Thanks so much everyone. I wanted to make a comment about UMDNJ as my fiancee used to work there as a medical massage teacher. It is my understanding that UMDNJ weighs admissions heavily on state resident applicants as first choice because they are a state school... Maybe that is why they are making a stink about the license? We live in the midwest right now for school (been here 1 year) and we are returning as soon as we graduate to north Jersey where I will work and hopefully not run into that problem if I apply to SUNY as well.

Keep it to myself? / UMDNJ?
Wondering if anyone can comment on how to approach the subject of my educational goals as a CRNA when interviewing for an ICU position as a new BSN grad? Do I mention it and therefore let them know I will be leaving in two years or do I keep things to myself? Also, anyone had any experiences with the UMDNJ program? Thanks!

BSN student seeking info - OR/CRNA
Hi, Thanks! I am so excited about this all. I would love ICU as well. Would NICU be acceptable or would it be more appropriate to work with all ages so that I might experience a broader knowledge base? How the shnikees am I gonna pay on my consolidated BSN private loans while I am in CRNA school if I can't work? Eeeekkk!!! Can I pull some weekends? I love the school I am at, the fast track program is very intense and requires you to maintain an 85 (B+) in all courses at all times... hopefully this will look nice on my application? My sciences are okay, micro=A, a&p I&II = B's, Chem = C+, Stats=A... should I think about retaking my chem class and maybe taking a physics class to prepare? Thanks again!
