need advice
After working 6 1/2 years med surg and then getting laid off, I figured it was time to try something new. I was really interested in perioperative nursing . I was finally offered a position in pre-op with crosstraining to holding and pacu. The problem was I was offered the position a month after I had interviewed for it. Being unemployed, I had already taken another position by then. I was only in general hospital orientation but felt obligated to stay. Now after 2 days of orientation on the floor, I cant help feeling like i missed out on an opportunity to do something I would have liked. My current position is in the nursery. My question is how can I orient in this position but also get some or type peroperative experience for the future. The jobs were within the same system and the handbook says 6 months is required in one position before you can transfer. Would it be unprofessional of me to inquire about the position I turned down? I don't want my current supervisor to know I am thinking about this because I definately need a job! Should I just stay in my current position the 6 months and see if there are any preop/pacu openings then? After 2 days in the nursery I have experienced a lot of "down" time. If I am going to be at work I would like to stay busy(not overwhelmed) just busy. Would I get this in preop/pacu? Thanks for any input!

looking for advice...what should I do
This might not make sense but I was just looking for some friendly advice. I have(had) been out of work for about 6 months. I applied and interviewed for a job I was interested in but didn't hear anything for a while. Then I interviewed for a job I thought I could be interested in and accepted the position. While in orientation (classroom stuff) I received a call and was offered the job I was interested i first. I thought about it but felt I was obligated to stay with the position I was orienting for. And since it was in the same hospital system I thought I had to stay 6 months before transferring. Now I have had my first day of orientation on the floor and I can't help spending time thinking of the job I turned down. I wish I had did something before. I am not sure it is "right" to inquire to that supervisor about the job opening and I am afraid of letting my current supervisor know anything about it. What should or could I do? I think part of my "anxiety" is just starting at a new place and a new field after beiing out of work for a while. But I cant help thinking about the position I turned down. Sorry this got so long. Thanks for any advice!

how far is too far to commute?
thanks guys for the advice. I am looking to work 2 or 3 10 hour days so I wouldn't be driving every day. I just want to enjoy my job. I am afraid I will "settle" because of the drive and miss out on something I would like. Where I live is atleast 30 minutes from everywhere. Mtn girl, are you anywhere near johnson city, tn?

how far is too far to commute?
Just looking for some wise advice. Have been offered an RN job that sounds okay that is 30 minute drive. I have an upcoming interview for a same day surgery position which is an hour commute one way. I am more interested in that type of position but the drive and gas prices scare me. What should I do? Thanks for any advice.
