Charting Bloopers
I found one on the orthopaedic ward. "Patient felt dizzy after standing on bed during bedmaking" I could just picture the nurse feeling dizzy looking up at him :rotfl:

Moving to New Zealand
I work in a hospital (that recently closed its aged care facility) most aged care is privately run in NZ now. Ratios vary depending on employer, are you talking RN to patient? cos if u r a RN you often have carers working with you also although u r ultimately responsible. Overall conditions are not too bad it certainly pays to asertain what the requirements are when you apply for a job. Nurses are currently fighting for fay pay in NZ as opposed to other professions such as police and teachers. The Govt states it believes in equal pay but reckons they don't have the budget to increase nurses wages. :angryfire Wages also vary between organisations and responsibility.

Funny things patients say !
in our ward we had Mrs M, a slightly confused lady(84) sharing a room with another lady of a similar age (Mrs Y). Mrs Y was troubled by nausea every morning for about 3 days, and we were trying to identify the cause when Mrs M spoke up loudly and very seriously "Are you sure you're not pregnant?" I couldn't help myself i lol she was sooooo serious:stone :roll

Taping IV Catheters
in the past we used steri-strips to anchor the tape under tegederm, but now we have a special I.V. dressing that comes with 2 pieces of tape and a combination fixamul-tegederm dressing (all sterile packaged and easy to access) the clear part sits over the entry site so it is visable at all times.
