  1. My wife and I are moving to Kansas City, KS in December 2009 and will be living in Overland Park. We are both RNs with over 7 years experience each. I have worked agency full time for most of my career, working M/S, Ortho/Neuro, Geri/Psych, ICU (CVICU:redbeathe primarily), LTAC(SNF) and PACU. She works ER and ICU with a strong NeuroICU background. We both prefer NIGHT shift. 1) Does anyone know of any facilities that might have 3 month travel contracts, so that we can get there with some assistance on moving/licenses/housing initially? And if so, do any of the local agencies host these contracts? :redbeathe 2) We are both pretty flexible with driving and working at numerous facilities. Is it possible to get overtime in KS,K working agencies?:redbeathe 3) Is the call-off rate high?:redbeathe 4) Is it necessary to sign up with "All About Staffing" if I am going to sign up with another agency? I was considering going with Cascade, seems like the most positive feedback on this forum. It is important that we have health insurance, etc. Also, are there any bonuses for longevity, extra shifts, etc?:redbeathe 5) What is the going rate for agency HCA and non-HCA hospital night shift specialty RN?:redbeathe 6) Does anyone know of an ER orientation program? I am considering, if it is necessary to take a permenant position in a facility, to get experience in this area?:redbeathe Thanks, Michael
  2. Thanks focker...Left handed intubator maybe? A bit too late for the post, but I appreciate it. Michael
  3. Congrats Renee, I just finished my BSN last month too. I applied last summer to the CRNA program at Univ of Tenn (Two semesters shy of my BSN). They would have interviewed me, because they felt that I was a competative candidate, but ultimately chose not to because there were two people in a similar situation that they did not want to have to make the exception for, so they wind up telling me to just re-apply after completion. I think that it just really depends on the program, the dean, and the stringency of their admission requirements. But, it never hurts to apply, or at least send a short email to the dean of the program and attempt to set up a meeting if possible. I have just written a book about the acceptance process into CRNA school. Good luck and good skill. Just keep jumping through those hoops! Michael Gray, RN, BSN
  4. I am an RN in memphis. I work in CVICU. I can not tell you if there are any positions open at the facility that I am in, but if you go to http://www.methodisthealth.org/, you can search available openings. There are I think five methodist hospitals in the memphis area, the largest being University hospital, which is where I work. The other large hospitals are Baptist and St. Francis. Baptist is well known for high nurse to patient ratios though. There is also St. Jude and Le Bonheur childrens hospitals. Le Bonheur is part of the methodist family, so you may be able to search at the above mentioned site. Hope this helps
