Hi! Just starting out on my first travel assignment at the age of 55. I was concerned that I might be too old but it appears I will fit in just fine. Had a short general orientation today and was introduced to many people my age or older. Took that element out of my concerns. I think or hope that you will see the same thing in your travels. After all, the statistics indicate that nurses over 50 are not the exception. Good Luck to you.
  2. First day of orientation today. Only filled out initial paperwork, got my badge, etc., you know the drill. Anyway, I had to post and let you know that I was extremely relieved to notice that half of the staff I came in contact with today was my age or older. "Feeling better about the whole thing." :welcome:
  3. Thanks for the info. I signed a contract and am just getting ready to start my first assignment with them. I have arrived at my destination and they have put me up in a "corporate apartment". So far, so good.
  4. Thanks to all for all the comments and encouragement. I have arrived at my destination and I am ready for my first travel assignment - have orientation on Monday. I guess I will find out for myself real quick if I can cut it or not. Glad to have the opportunity to try.
  5. Thanks for the advice. I appreciate that I am probably worrying too much about details at this point. I know if I was in my home environment it wouldn't be a big deal, I would either get it or not, and if not---someone else would help me.
  6. Thanks for the encouragement. I intend to make myself proud. I am new to this website but intend to keep up and participate. I have learned a lot from reading postings already placed by your members.
  7. Thanks for the advice. i will work on it where I work now - I have a friendly RT who will coach. Funny that I never thought of this before. I am soooo spoiled.
  8. I am going on my first travel assignment soon. I am 55 years old. I never thought about my age until someone at work said "Aren't you a little old to be going traveling?" Do you know, can you tell me is age really an issue - I thought if you do your work, help others and stay out of trouble - you would be welcome.
  9. I have only worked in 2 hospitals - 1 critical care unit - 1 sicu. In both of these units RNs drew ABGs from art lines and RT drew ABGs without a line. I am going traveling in June = do I need to learn how to drawn ABGs without a line to go into other units.
  10. Congratulations!!!! I went to a two-day seminar in Little Rock that Laura Gasparis-Vonfrolio put on. Never had such a good time. Would go again just for the entertainment. Hope all goes well with you.
  11. I wish you luck. It was a very hard exam but I did manage to pass it. If you did ok on your CEN I am sure you will be ok. Did you take a review course or use any practice tests? They did help me some.
  12. Just starting out in travel nursing. Took a chance and signed a contract with Right Solutions. Should have asked you guys first! Anything you can tell me would be appreciated.
  13. Hello, Today is my first day on this forum. I am taking my first travel assignment to Cottonwood, Az I start June 12th. You and I are the same age so feel a kinship of sorts. I am excited and anxious at the same time. Looking forward to a new adventure.
  14. Hello, I have been an RN in a 13 bed ICU/CCU for 8 years. Am getting restless so decided to try traveling. Since I have always wanted to be able to visit Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon, Flagstaff, etc., I decided to take a travel assignment in Cottonwood. If you know anything about Cottonwood or have any good advice, I am all ears. Ignorance is not bliss.
