I've been an LPN for 10 years and have been wanting to get my RN forever - but "life" has always stood in the way. Anyway I would still like too - are there by any chance any other programs online besides Excelsior, that anyone knows about and If Excelsior is the only one - what do you think of it . I wish I could do this is a year - but it seems like it's going to take 2 more years . When I was in LPN school I was always under the impression that if I went on - after one more year I would be an RN - now it seems like everything is saying 2 years. I do have college credit Psych and Sociology. Any opinions or suggestions. ps I'm 39 and a single mom and the nearest school is about 40 miles or 45 minutes away.

- are you sure you didn't mean $2,800 - I can't imagine any LPN program costing $28,000. If that's correct look else where.

Once in the OR the nurse anesthesist was trying to intubate a young woman with down syndrome , they were going to do a tubal ligation, anyway, he couldn't get the tube down , he was so rough and angry and cursing about it and kept trying over and over - it was horrible - what a jerk - if I ever have to be a patient in that hospital - if i am able - i will request that guy not be my nurse! :angryfire

- This reminds me of when I was a nurses aid - I was not in the OR but did take care of a 15 yr old boy that had lost his member and his hand when a firecracker went off in his hand as he was holding it down by his groin. poor kid - . I was only about 20 at the time myself.

- Too funny - it reminded me of this time that a female nursing home patient of mine went into a seizure or a stroke or something (i should remember but it was so long ago ) and the nurse practioner who was in the room with me at the time told me to take the patients teeth out I guess incase she had to be intubated or so they wouldn't obstruct her airway - anyway - I start pulling on her teeth and I couldn't get them out - the nurse practioner started pulling on them and he couldn't get them out either - then the patients husband comes in and says what are you doing ? we said trying to get her teeth out - he said those are her own teeth ! :imbar - the nurse practioner was a friend of mine and had a very good sense of humor - we had such a hard time not laughing in front of this patients husband - anyway the patient was ok - well no harm done anyway.

pretty cool idea as a nurse that woman knows - even if she has a living will - if she is away from her home hospital and her health care proxy and living will aren't available - she'll be recessitated - on the street for example - and then - it's too late - i think its a great idea that should be upheld legally - afterall you have to sign a consent to be tatooed obvoiusly you want it there - no one held her down and forced it on her for cryin out loud.

Sometimes my employers have asked whats wrong and sometimes they don't - I feel if I don't give them at least some symptoms they'll think I'm lying and just want to stay home. Also I would like to hear what everyone has to say about " why do facilities allow you for ex. 10 paid sick days a year but get mad even if you take 5 of them ? " - also " shouldn't 2 sick days in a row count as one incident, I mean after all , If you're truly ill , how often do you feel bad for only one day ?"
