  1. I used to work in a Doctor's office and we had a MA in our office who routinely identified herself on the phone as "the nurse". I'm an RN and I think we need to be very careful who gets to call themselves "nurse". The education is different and an MA should identify themselves as an MA. The bad thing for me was the doc condoned her doing it! I complained to him about it and he did not feel it should be a big issue. I thought it was and now I no longer work for the man. The MA told me that she thought their profession would eventually do everything RNs do, command the same salary and even felt their education was "more in depth" then RNs. I worry for patients that think they are getting advice from a nurse and may not be talking to a nurse at all.
  2. Hello, I am interested in telephone triage nursing. I have been an RN for 13 years. I did a lot of telephone triage for an endocrinologist for several years along with lots of diabetic teaching! I've had a variety of experiences including long-term care, home health, dialysis and I've currently been 5 years on an in-patient rehab unit (strokes, amputations, hip/knee replacements etc). I'm 50 yrs old and MY hips/knees aren't what they used to be! I've done computer charting for years and I was a school secretary prior to nursing, so I'm comfortable with typing/charting, prioritizing and organization. I would love to find a home telephone triage position. I wouldn't mind training in an office setting, but my goal is to work from home. I have a dedicated computer and printer as well. What companies are currently hiring/training for triage nurses? Are certain companies considered better then others? Also, are there classes on-line or books I could order for core curriculum that would help me get into this field? Any ideas, or suggestions that you might have will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance, Sue
