Hello all. I have a question as to where I should go. Started an assignment at a Boston hospital on Monday morning. Local travel, thank god. I went through the hospital orientation, no problems. Towards the end of the day they brought us to the units we were working on. My contract was for ER, states ER on the contract with no floating specified. Somehow I was put in ER Hold, which, at this particular hospital, is actually a tele unit. Mostly admissions, you are responsible for all admission paperwork, daily meds, monitoring, etc. until they can find a bed in the hospital. NOT the ER itself. The nurse manager told me that the hold are is only called ER Hold because it's located in the back of the ER. You can end up with patients that are direct admits. If I had known that this was the assignment, I would never have taken it. I work in the ER, not a tele floor. I have no experience on Tele, and I haven't done any Med/Surg in forever. I called my recruiter and told her of the situation. She told me that ER and ER Hold are the same thing. I tried to explain to her that this was not the case, at least here, and was there some way to work this out. She got nasty with me, telling me that I was going to have to deal with it. On my way out of the hospital, the ER Nurse Manager stopped me and asked if I was interesting in working in the ER itself. I said that yes, that was what I thought I would be doing. She said that she may have a travel position available for me and to hang tight for a couple of days and she would let me know. Now what? I haven't heard from my recruiter, she hasn't returned my calls or emails. I got a call from the same agency, different branch to see if I was interested in going to another contract in RI. When I said I wasn't sure what was going on with my original contract she told me that she had submitted someone to that position earlier today...which meant my contract had been cancelled...When I called my original recruiter again after this conversation she didn't answer her phone. On top of that, I'm waiting to hear from the nurse manager to see if I can start next Monday in their ED. Does this mean that I'll get another contract with my agency, or am I supposed to set up another contract myself? I'm livid...anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do?

I felt exactly the same way. I had NO idea what any of the meds were, they were completely random, and they were all check all that apply. Please don't beat yourselves up too much though. As Eric said, the test is designed to make you feel that way. After the amount of stress nursing school caused in our lives, I thought I was prepared for the stress of the NCLEX...ah well. When I left the test I wondered why I had bothered going to nursing school at all, but I did pass. Stop beating yourself up, and let us know how you did!!

I know exactly how you feel!! I just took my NCLEX on Monday, was totally fine when I left the test, and then starting throwing up once I got home. If you can, do something totally mindless to try and relax. I watched Supernatural re-runs. LOL. I felt horrible by the time my quick results came in, totally convinced that I must have bombed it. Mine also shut off at 75, but I did pass. What kind of questions did you have?

Thanks guys. My test was a lot of what would you do first, which patient will you see first, select all that apply (on mostly meds!! Auuuggghhhh), and stuff like that. I was also surprised by the random drugs...just the drug name, nothing else. But alas... When I got to around question 30 I figured out what was actually going on. There was a little green alien sitting in the computer, taking pictures of my face as I was reading the questions..."Ha ha" he was saying, "Let's see what color green her face turns now!!" Gave myself a giggle during the test. I couldn't imagine waiting for months to find out if you passed or not. I'm the only one in my family (that's old enough) that isn't a nurse. Everyone is a nurse who married a nurse. I was a rebel, went into Criminal Justice. I really think nursing is a calling, because I wasn't as happy doing that as I was in nursing school itself... Yikes, 8:58...dum dum dahhhhh.

Hello all, First off, I want to thank everyone who has posted on this site! I am a board lurker, never posted, but have probably read every single thread regarding the NCLEX. Everyone is so supportive and has such great information, it's incredible. I took my NCLEX on Monday, and now I am waiting for quick results. All through school I was as cool as a cucumber. Exams never bothered me because you couldn't change it once it was done anyway...I left the NCLEX cool as a cucumber, got home, and started throwing up. LOL. Ahhh. Haven't slept since. My poor husband, he's been hiding. My dogs have been hiding. Even my cats are totally ignoring me. This is not good. Nope, not healthy. They say the results are up within 48 hours. The Massachusetts BON is not responding at the moment...Pearson says my results are not available yet. I think I've had multiple MIs overnight. I took my test at 9:00 am. So I'm hoping it meant 48 hours from then. Ah, well, I will keep everyone posted! No pun intended.
