  1. Eileen, I have hired a few new grads int he ER. I really think it depends on the person and the facility. The larger ER's can handle new grads better. You do need to know a lot about everything. It is the experience and critical thinking that takes a new grad longer. In the smaller facilities, where there are less nurses on a shift, I find it harder on the staff to mentor them and the new grads become more task oriented. I am not a firm believe in working med-surg first. I never did. The import thing to remember is studying does not stop after you get out of school.- erangel71
