  1. i've heard in the past some "traditional" MSN programs will not accept RN's from EC (i have graduated from EC in april '08) and people were being looked down on and their applications rejected. Well, i have just been accepted in a RN-MSN FNP program by a local university and before the interview even started, one of the faculty members told me she knew how hard EC was, how much work, self-determination, focus it takes to be able to complete it...she was very impressed with EC! Her words were music to my ears, it was so nice to see she was so open-minded... so, if you happen to be dismissed by anybody because you did not go through a traditional nursing program, don't get upset, discouraged, angry...keep knocking on doors and one will open for you... good luck to all of you! :redbeathe
  2. you can go to their website: excelsior.edu...you can open an account for free and start browsing...i went through them, took me 11 mo to complete it and now am working as a RN. The waiting time on the cpne is shorter these days...check the boards! and also, check with your board of nursing and make sure they accept excelsior...
  3. they offer a discount for new grads online also...don't have a flier, will have to go through their website...how's the coverage different?
  4. so NSO is the way to go... thank you all for your replies...i just couldn't make up my mind which way to go...gosh, just praying now i won't be needing it.
  5. all i can tell you is that security clearance was very tough when i got hired...it goes in very deep and on several levels and they might let you start orientation after a first level is cleared, that doesn't mean they're done with you...federal government doesn't mess around... if there's something in that closet, it will come back and haunt you... *not sure about credit issues*
  6. am doing my little research on this and am going to get insurance...i think you can't be too careful out there anymore and thinking "it's not going to happen to me" is simply oudated and dangerous...sad, but true. i really need some input on this, as i've never had this kind of insurance before...don't want to go cheap, just want the best coverage... thanks....
  7. :redbeathe thank you, Lisa!!!
  8. i do, too...ok, this is just hearsay, but the statistics class (they say) is a killer! also, if you plan on going back after that to take your masters, there are programs that won't accept a BSN from EC...? isn't that crazy?
  9. did you put your name on the cancellation list? end of dec...that's less than 3 mo, i'd say get ready for the phone call...:nuke:
  10. sorry to hear that...i just passed mine 2 wks ago, had a totally different experience than yours...hope you didn't give up and go back soon...
  11. :grpwlcm: don't know what FCAA is...? CPNE is hard but doable...you have to know the study guide by heart, have to be able to write careplans, etc...go to EPN, you'll find great info there...send faculty e-mails and call them if you have questions. they'll be more than happy to help you.
  12. Thank you all!!! :redbeathe such a relief to know it's over with! just got my completion/graduation date, applied for the boards, paid pearson vue..waiting on the board to give me the green light now! i applied in sept, got a date in dec and then they called like 2-3 times trying to get me to accept a cancellation date...it was impossible for me at the time... i didn't go to any workshop, i didn't have the time, we moved to a different state, changed jobs, etc...am not going to say anything about lynn's workshop, but if i were you i would go to the EC workshop...and if you don't, just make sure all the info you get from any workshop, you run by faculty. you can schedule weekly conferences, you can send them e-mails, you can ask them questions on EPN...the advantage is that you will get the right answers! that's the best advice i can give anyone who's preparing for this exam...:wink2: there were 6 ppl in the group, 2 of them failed the first day (felt so sorry for them! very nice, experienced LPNs), the rest of us passed... Hope this helps, Lucia
  13. 6 mo at the max...it's going to be shorter... you could use that time to study for the cpne. it's a difficult exam, underestimated sometimes by a lot of people...
  14. this is THE BEST thing you can do!!! :typing
  15. good luck to you!!! go on EPN! great last minute advice...and good tips!!! they will even do a belly dance for you!!!! will be praying for you, Lucia
  16. i've had a good experience there:yeah:! the CE's were very helpful and the same goes for the CA. the feeling was great! just wanted to come back and say thanks for all your posts/info... one more thing: go to EPN!!! it's the best thing you can do, greatest study group ever...good information and most importantly...ACCURATE information... be careful what workshops you're going to and make sure you verify everything with a faculty member! :typing Lucia
  17. hi, there...don't lose your faith! i also scored low on the tests, 80's then went down to 60's...just to get an A on the real exam. Some of those questions are not very "good" questions in my opinion and even after i read their rationale, didn't entirely sit right with me and didn't relly know where to look for that rationale...just know what the answers are, some questions may be on your exam, make sure you don't miss them...every point counts. Then i would recommend you buy Saunders, "NCLEX-RN" and work that book..those questions are real good, will help you on the real exam and in the real world. Good luck to you...don't give up...
  18. i would introduce the CE as my instructor. don't think it would be polite to just ignore them, plus the patient has the right to know who's who.
  19. now telemetry is another scary story! at the hospital where i worked they were trying their best to hire people with some experience at reading them: ex-emts's, etc. now what they're trying to do is get a monitor on the floor and train us to be able to read them. i wasn't replying just to you, i read all the posts and tried to say what i was thinking about this whole situation. sad but it could have been avoided very easily.
  20. i think you're right...i think i remember reading that, too. of course, with my luck, things are probably going to change! :trout: thanks for the info...:balloons:
  21. i know...it's terrible! do you think anybody would do that??? i'd be too :angryfire to give them all that money again...unless they say i won't have to take the cpne ever again :trout:...
  22. you can...after you fail the cpne 3 times, you'll have to wait 5 years then you can reapply and start all over again.
  23. this is the feedback i got: https://allnurses.com/forums/f125/st-joseph-s-syracuse-ny-my-cpne-test-site-268913.html Good luck to you!
  24. wow...i just moved to WV from Mississippi...guess i won't make it back there any time soon...LOL btw, i loved New Orleans. The french Quarter reminded me of home (Europe) soooo much! babysitting your little terror might be the perfect excuse for me to go back there for a visit! :balloons:
  25. i have the same dates! you can still decline without losing $100... did you get a letter of acceptance in your packet? you can check the box where you decline and won't cost you a thing. unless you already told them you accepted the date?!
