  1. I can relate to your frustration. I know I am being very hard on myself for NOT "just knowing" so much that I see others pick up on so quickly. (I am new to the ICU as well w/o prior nursing experience.) Everyone says it's normal to feel overwhelmed/scared/unsure in the beginning. But, this feeling stinks! What keeps me going back is the fact that I am pretty sure about what I do and do not know. I always ask and keep safety as my main priority... thanks for sharing your experience and I hope what Sue said helps you, because it helped me...
  2. I agree with Ralph. If you want it, you can do it. My story- *Dropped out at 16 *GED at 17 *Raised a daughter *Graduated Magna Cum Laude, #1 in my BSN program and earned a spot on a highly competitive critical care and trauma internship A GED is not a reflection of what you can accomplish.
  3. Hi Silly... Remember to give specific examples that back up your answer. Statements that begin with "for example", "such as", etc... Allow the interviewers to get a sense of your thought process, your ability to connect concepts, and use details to explain the "steps" you would take. Have you prepared a list of questions to ask your interviewers? oh and don't forget to send a one page typed thank you letter to your interviewers immediately after your interview. Good luck!
  4. Hi Rob, if you are like me and did/do the majority of your clinical hours in an ICU/ER at one facility- have you considered talking to them about working as a GN/RN during your Parkland application process? You may miss out on a sign on bonus or tuition reimbursment- but at least you'll get paid while gaining additional critical care experience. good luck!
