  1. tobesmartt: Magnet Regognition status is given by the ANCC to facilitys that "exemplify excellence in nursing". There are only 231 hospitals in the US with this status. I have not taken a stand (for or against) yet. Since the credential is so difficult and costly to obtain I am trying to determine the actual benefit based on the experience of working nurses. I am also trying to determine what if anything nurses actually know about the status. Thank you so much for participating:)
  2. I'm doing my thesis on the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program. Please Reply: A-Do you work for a Magnet hospital? B-If yes:Is the facility better for nursing staff than a non-magnet hoapital based on your personal experience? C-Do you know what Magnet is? D-If given a choice, would you choose a Magnet employer over a non-Magnet employer? E-What does your facility's Magnet status provide you with that other facilities do not? F-Are you satistified with how your employer addresses the needs of nursing staff at your facility? G-What do you really want from your employer? Much thanks in advance!
  3. I went to LNA Health Car. Immediatly got hired on med/surg in a hospital. Excellent program, great instructors. Attended approx. 3 yrs ago.
  4. Do any class of 09 nursing grads have a copy of their fall 08-09 syllabus they can post? Ours wont be available until the end of the summer and I was hoping to get a jump on studying. I know it wont be the same but the general content should be similar. We have psych in the fall. Thanks!
  5. I got a hosp. job as soon as I finished LNA Health Careers last year(april 06). I also got a per-diem nursing home job(I still have both now). Hosp. pays $10 hr+ $2.50 shift diff. (12hr day shift). Nursing home for 3pm-11pm weekend shifts pays $20 hr.($16 base plus $4 shift diff.). The hosp. job is way cooler, learn lots and the atmosphere is far more varried. Nursing home pays better but all we do is feed, toilet, and bath.
  6. Concord starts you at $11.14. Speare in Plymouth starts at $9.70, and St Francis in Laconia starts at $10.25. While your in your class you tend ot get the impression that starting wages are higher but expect the lower end. Keep in mind these starting rates do not include a deduction for benefits which will drop the wage as well. Speare for example charges approx $180 per month for a family plan and this is lower then many other employers- so you see your "actual" take home is quite less between this and taxes.
