  1. I apologize early if I am posting in the wrong place, I scanned and felt this place was appropriate. Anyway, I begin pre-reqs in the fall, and want a headstart learning and being in the setting, so I am looking for advice about where to work during my pre-reqs, if that is even possible, maybe volunteer or paid if possible. How do I go about deciding and then logistically speaking, contacting the right person for my job/position needs? Thanks in advance.
  2. this was a great thread. i am 31 y.o. female and nursing will be second career for me. i agree that nursing or any career for that matter is not necessarily by all means necessary a calling. but one gets older and matures and becomes wiser and realizes that a job is something you do for many reasons. if any job was a calling you could believe with all your heart it was your calling and suck at the job. i'm with the response earlier about wanting a nurse that has mad skills PLUS compassion. as i begin my pre-reqs i plan on learning and soaking up every bit of info that comes my way, assess it, and apply when necessary. i am a compassionate person by nature, so i am happy to finally arrive at a career where i can be valued for my education and expertise while integrating my true nature.
  3. thank you sooooooo much for that inspirational reply!! i needed it. i AM starting a & P in the fall and am somewhat apprehensive, but for the most part very excited and willing to trek into this new area of education and wisdom. it's good to know there are people like myself in the field that put real thought and emotion into their patient care. i believe we can heal with a pill and a loving gesture. thanks again for your reply and i wish you all the best
  4. so, i am set to take anatomy and physiology 1 in the fall. I am already in the health field, i am a yoga and fitness instructor. i have a ba in psychology and am extremely interested in health and the body. i am looking to expand my health and wellness knowledge and at 31 am looking to pursue a career with many possibilities. so, i decided on nursing. there is something about being in a hospital that i love, i enjoy working with people, and i like the hands-on aspects of nursing. i especially enjoy and crave helping others be "well". so am i kidding myself with nursing/ am i gonna be just another pill pusher for the drug company of the day, with gobs of unthankful patients and egotistical doctors? i know there are many different fields to enter in nursing, i guess i'm just confused, scared, all that stuff. the a & p will come in handy for me no matter what i decide, everyone just says to me that nursing is a calling, and i should enter it with much thought and trepidation...but life is short right, why not do nursing?
