  1. I am working on a new employee orientation checklist for our RN's in the ED. The one we have now is overwhelming and is 10 pages long. We are a Level III, 9 bed ED and would love to hear from anyone that would like to share, so we don't have to reinvent the "wheel". Thanks
  2. Wow, RNERHOUSESUPOR! You should be able to pull your toy hauler any where you please! What will you drive to work when you get to where you are going? Do you have a Motorcycle that you take in your toy hauler? Cris
  3. Hello, Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but Point of Care and Med Verify is very time consuming. Your hospital has to build your own flowsheets and eforms, then once you implement them you find out all the things that are wrong with them. Charting is redundent and is hard for the ones auditing charts to find the information that they need. Med verify is a nightmare.....We have an elderly population at our hospital and it took me 40 minutes to scan and give one patient his meds:down: Makes it very difficult to pass your meds in the timeframe that you have to pass meds. If your hospital uses agency staff, this is also a nightmare to get them assigned login numbers, trained on the system and how to scan meds. Don't use the Problem Lists if you can help it, for your Care Plans....they are not very user friendly either............I could go on and on, but good luck with your venture and remember that on a day shift it is hard for a nurse to handle more than 4 patients. (at our hospital) Thanks, Cris
  4. How long can you get the Cobra insurance if you want to take more than 1 month off? Is Cobra through the same company that you have with your agency? Thanks
  5. We are from Knoxville, not far from Ottumwa. I have worked for the local hospital here for about 15 years, but took a little time away to try the travel and contract thing about 2 years ago. Decided to take a position here again when the economy went "south" to have a guaranteed job. Now I am getting the itch to get back out there. I have been watching the websites pretty close and looks like things are loosing up a little, but still not like it was a few years back. How long have you been traveling? I have 2 friends that just left to go to Arizona and I am so jealous. Have you worked any where in Texas or Arizona? What specialty do you do? I would like to do something in Missouri this summer to be close to home. We have a Chevy diesel dually to pull our Excel. My husband just told me that we probably need to get new tires if we decide to head out again, but I am thinking like you, our trailer is really nice and will work for many years if we take care of it. Do you use one agency or are you signed with several? What do you do about insurance in between jobs? Thanks for the info....will be anxious to hear about your experiences. Cris
  6. Hey everyone, We did a travel assignment in North Carolina and just loved it, but then came home to Iowa and took a staff position due to the economy. I am getting the itch again and ready to hit the road. I have been updating my profiles with my companies and will start seriously looking after the first of the year. It looks to me things are opening up a little with jobs again....Are you having any problems with finding assignments? We have a 36' Excel fifth wheel with slides and it worked great for us. We have looked at upgrading to a motorhome, but can't find one that is setup as nice as our fifth wheel. We are also thinking that motorhomes are great for traveling long distances, but when you get there the fifth wheel is a better option....What do you guys think? I love this website....so much great info! Cris
  7. Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone is working at St. Mary's or Capital Regional? We are getting closer to being able to relocate from Iowa and was curious on how each place treats nurses, pay scales, shift differentials, do they have any weekend packages. My experience is in ED, but interested in overall thoughts on these hospitals. Thanks
  8. Thank you to everyone for the posts. I didn't realize that Springfield was so close to Branson, so any comments on hospitals in that area, especially ED would be appreciated. Cris
  9. Hi all, We are considering relocating to the Osage Beach area or Branson area and would like some input from you on hospitals in each area (ED), pay rates, what levels the ED's are, etc. We are living in Iowa now and I am curious if pay rates are compariable. I have 14 years of experience. What is your thoughts??? Thanks, Cris
  10. Hello, I have gotten the itch to go traveling again and have also noticed that jobs are not as plentiful as before. I am not in a huge hurry, but would like to get something for January or February. My recruiters tell me they hope things will get better after the first of the year. Do you think that with the way the economy is affecting the retirement nest eggs of us baby boomers that we will not see them retiring as early as they planned? I know I am looking at working longer than I had planned. Cris

Hello, Has anyone worked in the ED at Kino in Tucson? Mostly old threads, when I search the forums. How many beds? How much psych pts do you get and do they have a "crisis team" that helps with evaluation and placement of psych patients. What trauma level are they? How do they treat their travelers? What is the nurse to patient ratio? Any information would be great. I worked in a county hospital in Iowa and loved it. This hospital sounds a lot like that. Thanks, Cris:bowingpur
  14. Thanks so much for the info. Cris:bow:
  15. Hello, I did my first travel assignment in the ED at Morehead City and had a great experience. I would love to go back to the North Carolina Coast. I have noticed that Craven Regional has many ED openings and I was thinking that some of the travelers last year told me this was not a very traveler friendly place. Has anyone worked in the ED at this hospital and what do you think? Do they require the Preformance Based testing that everyone is complaining about? Thanks, Cris
