Metformin and IV contrast
I work in a VA and a good portion of our patients have diabetes and hard to control so they may be on insulin AND oral. Do you have their labs checked before you restart the metformin? Renal panel. Also the majority of our procedures are outpatient.

Metformin and IV contrast
I am in great need of some policy/procedures regarding patients who take metformin and receive IV contrast, either CT or angiogram. What is the practice now on patients stopping the metformin and restarting? I guess here we are suppose to just 'know' what to do. I know they have to be off of it but what about restarting it and what if this is a brittle diabetic or someome who has been running hi, do they still take it, stop taking? Any ssistance would be great. Thanks and Happy New Year to Everyone!!!

Dobhoff
Is there anyone out there that places dobhoffs in radiology? If so, who places techs, RN or just MD. My facility is wanting me to start placing dobhoff's under fluro with my radiologist standing by. I work in a small hospital and there is one tech who can place them but do to politics he is not allowed to right now. I am the only Rad RN and do many, many things around here besides IR's. Also, I am presently the only RN who places PICC lines. As this goes along with the above, the above tech can also place lines but AGAIN due to politics, he's not allowed. Anyone have any thoughts, comments? HELP

Patient education
What are places using for patient education on PICC lines, what it is, care for, dressing changes, etc? I'm trying to find or write something very simple and easy for patients to understand. Anyone have anything the are using or know where I can get something? Thanks in advance.
